Lexi's Slayer Tips V 2.1

*NOTE THIS IS NOT A GUIDE, THESE ARE JUST SOME TIPS, I MAY EVENTUALLY TURN THIS INTO A GUIDE HOWEVER*

Okay Slayer, a fairly popular skill yet one of the hardest in the game to train. For those of you that may not know, many of the common and popular items in Runescape such as the Abyssal whip and Dragon boots are slayer only drops. A slayer only drop is a drop that can only be aquired from a certain type of slayer monster (or PVP if your lucky).

These are a few tips that i think may help any upcomming slayers.

Well for one thing slayer is a completly combat based skill, if you don't understand what that means -.- , it means that you are going to fight things. This means that you are going to want decent armour and weapons. Sure some level 3's and other low level players may have 50+ slayer however they are generally skillers that use xp lamps and books on slayer. TO train it efficiently it is combat based. Some popular choices for weapons and armour are;

Weapons

-Abyssal whips

-Saradomin swords

-Godswords

Armour

-Barrows

-Bandos

-Fighter Torso

-Dragon armour

-Rune armour

My tip for equipment is to get, if within your ability, the following items and then build your set up from there. The items a good set up of worn equipment should always include are:

-Slayer helmet/ Black mask (for the extra attack and strength bonus' on tasks)

-Fire cape (for the high defensive, attack and strength boosts)

-Barrows gloves ( currently best gloves in game, not very hard to get either)

-Dragon boots (nice defence, highest strength bonus for boots currently)

-Amulet of fury (some people preffer to use a glory for the teleport options but i feel the bonus' of a fury are worth the lack of teleport ability)

Those 5 items are key, for the ring slot you have 4 choices;

Ring of Duelling

Ring of wealth

Ring of Slaying

Berserker ring

Each is useful in a different way. The wealth is useful for all tasks as it increases your valuble drop potential. The Ring's of slaying and duelling are used for teleporting, the duelling more for banking (castle wars) and the ring of slaying for teleporting to task locations. Berserker rings give a strength bonus which is why some people choose to use them, personally i think it's a waste of a space seeing as you do not need an incredibly high strength bonus for slayer tasks.

Once you have those 6 slots figured out, prefferably with the items i mentioned earlier or if you are unable to obtain go for the next best by your eyes, you can work on setting up your main armour and weapon.

For weapons you can't go wrong with an Abyssal whip or Saradomin sword. Both of these require 70 attack however meaning that lower level slayers may not be able to use them yet, if this is the case i would say go for a Dragon Scimitar, these are useful for slayer as well at much lower cost and requirment then the whip or SS.

If you have a high attack level and the money a Godsword is also another good choice, this weapon has some very nice high hits and a good accuracy, however it does attack very slowly which in slayer can sometimes be annoying. With 99 attack and strength a godsword is probably prefferable as you won't miss to much and when you hit you should hit hard, this should equal out to the fast lower hits of a SS or whip.

Both godswords and Saradomin swords are 2 handed meaning that if you use them you will not be able to use a shield (no duh obviously :wall: ). This is one of the reasons people will like to use Abyssal whips to, because when paired with certain shields they become even more effective. Some good shields to use for slayer are;

-Dragonfire shield (DFS), This has great defence and a great strength bonus, also very nice to speed up Dragon tasks.

-Rune defender,Its defence bonus' aren't high but it also gives a good strength bonus, better yet it gives attack bonus'.

-Obby shield, Decent defence, good strength, fairly cheap, useful for low level slayers.

So yeah from that you should be able to get your weapon and shield. Now onto the main armour.

As formentioned Bandos and Barrows are two very popular choices for slayer. Both are good in different ways although to those with a lower budget i would say go with Barrows as a Bandos chest and Tassets together cost around 32m at the moment.

Bandos armour gives good defence bonus' compared to other armour, however what makes up it's cost are the prayer and strength bonus'. These bonus' are very useful for anything, slayer or boss hunting.

Barrows gives higher defence boost's then Bandos however none of it gives strength or prayer (except for Verac's). Barrows also degrades which is a pain, after a certain amount of hours of combat it will degrade to the next state, it starts at 100, then goes to 75, then 50, then 25 then it becomes fully degraded. At this point it can no longer be worn and has to be repaired, a full set from 0 can cost around 300k to repair.

The fighter torso is another popular choice, same strength bonus as a Bandos chest plate however no prayer and lower defence. I like using the Torso because it is easy enough to obatin and the bonus' are worth it. This top is great with any legs for slayer, rune legs, Dragon, Barrows or even Tassets.

Lastly, there is Rune and Dragon armour. If you can avoid using these i suggest you do, bonus' aren't that great however they are very, very cheap.

Okay thats it, theres your gear, took a while didn't it, i'd post pics but im to damn lazy :D

Now that all of thats out of the way onto more useful tips. Inventory is pretty basic, for every task take along 1 or more pure sets, a bunyip or 2 (or unicorn stallions if you can use), some food (or guthans), some alchs (fire and nature runes), A special weapon if your main weapon has no good special (DDS's are very popular), A teleport (for after the task is finished or if you run out of food), a slayer gem (for contacting your slayer master to see how much longer your task has to go), finally runes for the spell NPC contact, this is a very useful Lunar magicks spell. It requires level 67 magic and 2 air runes, 1 cosmic and 1 Astral. This lets you get a new task without having to actually go see the slayer master.

If you have money and your training slayer for the sake of training slayer then i would also suggest using prayer for all tasks. What prayer you use generally depends on the task. At level 13 prayer you are able to use the superhuman strength prayer which boosts your strength by 10%, the drain rate isn't to fast and if you are using Bandos Armour it drains even slower. This prayer is generally the most popular for tasks as you can have it on for the whole task and with 80+ prayer you should generally only need two 4 dose prayer potions, you may not even finish both of these sometimes.

Certain tasks such as dragons and Specters will drop a lot of items worth money that regrettably you will have to leave behind, however if you take a BoB familiar (Beast of burden) you will be able to keep some of these extra drops. When using a beast of burden rather then a healing or fighting familiar you will generally want to take one at the start of the task and an extra pouch in your inventory. You can put things in your BoB at the start of your task and use them when you need to or you can leave it empty until you get drops. Here is a list of BoB's:

Thorny snail level 13, carries 3 items

Spirit Kalphite level 25, carries 6 items

Bull ant level 40, carries 9 items

Spirit terrorbird level 52, carries 12 items

War tortoise level 67, carries 18 items

Pack Yak level 96, carries 30 items

Obviously the first 3 BOB's aren't worth it as they don't carry much and they last under 30 mins each. Spirit terrorbirds are very good to use as they are cheap to buy and last a decent amount of time. Tortoises are better then terrorbirds however they cost much, much more so unless you have a dragon task they generally aren't all that good for slayer. Yak's are the god of BoB's however 96 summoning isn't exactly the easiest level to obtain so they aren't very practical. If using a BoB i would suggest spirit terrorbirds. If you wish to make your own BoB pouch's i have marked which charms to use.

Another type of familiar that is worthwhile for slayer tasks are combat familiars. A combat familiar is a familiar that helps to fight the enemies you are killing, one of the downsides with this is that you cannot use them on tasks that are in a single way combat environment. Now really almost any familiar can be used to fight with except for ones that are majority skill based, however not that many are actually all that good for fighting. If you want to use a combat familiar you will generally want to use a titan or a minotaur. Each time a minotaur deals damage you will get some experience for the damage it does, with damage done by any minotaur you will receive defense experience. There are 6 different types of Minotaurs;

Bronze minotaurs (level 50)

Iron minotaurs (level 70)

Steel minotaurs (level 90)

Mithril minotaurs (level 112)

Adamant minotaurs (level 133)

Rune minotaurs (level 154)

Titans are the other combat familiar that are worthwhile. Once again there are many different types of titans however this time they are more diverse. Below is a list of the different titans, what there level is, what skill they train and what colour charm is used to create them. The types of titans are:

Fire titan (level 139) Trains magic

Moss titan (level 139) Trains strength

Ice titan (level 139) Trains attack

Lava titan (level 148) Trains strength

Swamp titan (level 152) Trains attack

Geyser titan (level 200) Trains range

Abyssal titan (level 215) Trains attack

Iron titan (level 220) Trains defense

Steel titan (level 230) Trains range

The first three titans all require 79 summoning to use, and in my opinion are some of the better titans to use. Thy're special ability scroll restores 8hp each and you can use 3 scrolls per familiar special bar which is a total of 24 hp. SO they are able to aid you in battle and heal you, very useful. Lava titans require 83 summoning to use but aren't all that great, they can teleport you to the lava maze if you wish to kill monsters for your slayer tasks there. Swamp titans need 85 slayer to be used, nothing good about them at all really. Geyser titans require 89 summoning and are good for slayer if you are ranging tasks especially, their scrolls do a nice amount of damage and the fact that you can recharge amulets of glory on them can help you to move around much more easily. Abyssal titans need 93 Summoning to use but are generally more of a skilling familiar so don't bother with these. That brings us to the Iron and Steel titans. They require 97 and 99 Summoning respectively, so they aren't easy to use but they are well worth it. They are both able to deal immense damage and last for a good amount of time, if you have the level and want a combat familiar definitely use them.

Now i did have runes for alching and runes for NPC contact up there, depending on which spell book you are on you can take what you wish. If you have 96+ mage and are on lunar use the spellbook swap spell to alch your drops and teleport to new tasks. Therefore if you have 96+ Magic and have finished Dream mentor there is no reason you shouldn't always just stay on Lunar magicks for slayer.

OTHER TRAINING METHODS

There are other training methods for slayer but none of them should be used as the sole source of xp if you are serious about leveling this skill. You can obviously use xp lamps and books from random events to gain slayer xp, you can do Tears of Guthix if it is your lowest skill, you can use your Zeal from soul wars, you may use quest reward lamps on it. Those are the ways in which anyone can train it, however for something that you should incorporate into daily slayer training would be killing the Jade vine and killing Bork. Both of these are mini games that can be done after completion of certain quests. The jade vine can be fought daily after you complete the quest back to my roots, to fight the jade vine you will just need to do what you did to kill it during the quest, killing it gives you 2.5k slayer xp each day. When fighting it do not forget that only hatchet's will damage it and that it can poison you.

Bork is slightly more complicated so i will not go into any of the details as this is not a guide on Bork, if you wish to learn more check out tip it's guide on Bork. Basically you can kill Bork daily to and as a reward you will receive a couple of hundred gp, some gems, some charms and 250 slayer xp.

To sum up here are my tips in a list form:

1. Always use a slayer helm /black mask

2. Always stay on Lunar if you have 96+ Magic

3. Always take familiars to tasks if you have the right levels for good familiars

4. Take pure sets as it speeds up every task

5. Take a teleport that teleports you very clsoe to a bank or slayer master (Karamaja glvoes 3 are great)

6. Take enough food, banking before a task is over really sucks

7. Take a slayer gem so that you know exactly how much longer the task is

8. Take a special weapon to speed up tasks

9. Block tasks that take a long time to complete or that you hate doing, remember you can block a maximum of 4 tasks

10. Use prayer on tasks if you have the money

Hope that helps, this is just a draft at the moment, will add more to it later, and remember these are tips and this is not a guide!!

Slayer isn't a combat skill! I know a few level 3s with 50+ slayer... you should probably fix that...

Just because it doesn't level combat doesn't mean it's not a combat skill. That's just silly.

You have some decent tips for starters, there's definetly room to expand though. Some big things to mention are killing the Jade Vine (Bork gives xp aswell), use of 5% and 10% strength prayers and combat familiars should be used whenever possible.
