i think that "oh my god" should not be censored because if it is jagex will have to do something about all the other commandment-violations. This includes the removal of a whole skill (thieving --> thou shalt not steal?), and the removal of the wilderniss, duel arena and castle wars (thou shalt not kill), and all the altars in runescape. I also think that the use of magic is considered heathen by christianity.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

besides that i think that "oh my god" clearly states MY god and not anyone elses and everyone has a right to pray to their own god in a time of need.

My opinion *sorry i dont know how to write it* is that Jagex did a Great Job at cencoring words.. so just let it be this way...

It isn't a problem, considering the three following things:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

1. Who's to say that by saying "Omg" that they are saying "Oh my god?" They could be saying "Oh my gosh."

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2. Who's to say that even if they are talking about "god" that they are referring to your god? That seems pretty selfish in it's own sense, as you're basically saying that any god that is talked about is the Christian "God."

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

3. Some people, such as myself, have no religion, or different religions, and do not care that the specific phrase "omg" is being used. I couldn't care less, quite honestly, as my beliefs are different that yours. If Jagex changes this because you say so, what about the other millions of people who don't agree with that religion? I mean, if you were mature, and it offended you, then you just simply wouldn't use it. I just suppose we'll be all the the ones going to hell, now won't we? :roll:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

As a side-note, I think that you bringing real life religion into a game is completely idiotic. As long as no one is blatantly going around trashing your god and/or religion, you shouldn't have a problem with it. The exact same thing sprang to my mind after i finished reading that first post of this topic. the M in omg stands for something, and you shouldnt be so up yourself and your religion to think everyone means your god, even having stated 'oh MY god'(assuming of course its god and not gosh ;)). You can argue its roots lie in blasphemous christians, but things change, i happen to find your assumptions that it has anything to do with the christian god offensive more than the phrase itself. You didnt even have the decency to spell his name with a capital G, as it is all throughout the bible. In fact, you're just a bit mega-rubbish.

I think censoring OMG would be stupid. Firslty, it is only an acronym. Technically, it's not an official acronym anyway; only a slang-acronym (slangcronym, if you will). Censoring it would be another step in the direction of extreme political correctness. I mean, c'mon, they're already talking about changing 'failure' to 'differred success'. Censoring it really would achieve nothing.

jagex can't do it because it would mean that they are partial to christians. There are more people of other religions that chritianity so suck it up and play its a game and there will always be things that some people like and some poeple think should change.
