I just got the task for Iron dragons, its 52 (I think...). I looked at a guide for ranging and it said if i'm one step away from them, they will only use fire breath and if I use anti-fire pots they won't be able to hit me at all. Is this true and is it as simple as that? Further more how many anti-fire pots will I need. Also will 74 range be enough to hit them or 79 range if I pot them.

Yes that is true.

Around 12 doses should be enough with that level. Keep your eye on your chat box, when the pot starts failing drink a new dose. Bring some food in the beginning to get used to it and to get there. Happy hunting :)

You're like me, I was so scared my first time, I thought their breath would roast me and that they'd come close and wtfpwn me.

 

 

 

As long as you have a anti-dragonfire shield, and a potion, and you are not within melee range, they will constantly breathe you, with 0s. If your pot runs out you'll get hit from 3-5 every breathe so just repot.

 

 

 

It's so easy, with your range level Irons should be do-able but don't try Steels with that range level.

I have a video that shows how to do it Melee style. Basically you just take a step away and attack after he breathes fire. Repeat. Hopefully seeing it in action will help you confirm how safe it is to metal dragon with antifire potions.
