On the tank note, I've been told tank people almost always end up with hearing problems, even with hearing protection.

Wouldn't doubt it. But it's either that or Coast Guard. Sniping was always an interest for me, but its almost on the same boat as the Air Force.

Anyways, im out for reals this time. Night.

One of the only topics of discussion in my AP psych class is that of how one of my friends looks up to the other because she's taller. They're both under five feet.

Wow, Justin Timberlake's acting career is really taking off.

@ pie: arm hair? Or would you prefer the possibility of the nasty, dark, thick stubble that would appear if a girl shaved her arms?

*Feels arm*

My arm hair is ridiculously short. It makes me feel unmanly tbh.

But seriously. My leg hair's like a half inch long, and my arm hair's just past a sixteenth. :(

Edit: Those were estimates. I don't regularly measure my body hair.

My skin is finally getting soft
I'll scrub until the damn thing comes off

If we're going by body hair length (not including head) I'm twice the man who is.

Your leg hair is an inch long? That's [bleep]ing gross man.

I have a friend whose leg hair is like that because he always wears shorts, even in the dead of winter. And he's not what you would call manly (though he's not gay). So, nah, not really an awesome measure.

My skin is finally getting soft

Can't even tell tbh. But yeah I'd say it is

methinks you just mad.

Also i'm pretty sure what kind of pants you wear has no bearing on the length of hair on your legs.

Yeah it does. If you wear pants that make your legs cold 1/2 the year, your body grows hair to keep itself warm.

Why do you think anorexics are hairy?

My skin is finally getting soft

I don't wear pants that keep me cold.

We have subcutaneous fat to keep us warm, not hair. Your argument is invalid. Go to jail. Do not troll. Do not collect 200 internets.

And if you are malnourished your hair falls out. Again, argument invalid.

Some of the physical effects of anorexia include:

* Severe mood swings; depression

* Lack of energy and weakness

* Slowed thinking; poor memory

* Dry, yellowish skin and brittle nails

* Constipation and bloating

* Tooth decay and gum damage

* Dizziness, fainting, and headaches

* Growth of fine hair all over the body and face

Fur and hair keep warm through the fact that they are insulators which means that they are poor at transferring heat; when heat is transferred an object changes temperature. So, if the heat transferring ability of the insulator is low it can keep things warm. Metal is a conductor so it transfers heat quickly causing it to heat up or cool quickly.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_does_hair_or_fur_keeps_us_warm

Q: "Does Body Hair actually make you warmer when you are out in the Woods?"

A: Yes.

The difference would be measurable through experimentation, but it would be simpler for you to wear additional layers of clothing.

Quote:

"Newell, you cold because you have no hair. You shave hair like woman. Hair traps air. Air is insulation. Keeps you warm. You have hair, you have trapped air under pants. You keep warm. You always fight nature, so you cold. American fight nature, and they weak. Russians live with nature and they are strong. Also, you wash too much. You wash away natural oils on your body. That makes your skin weak, and is why you cold."

Comment: Essentially, he's correct.

Hair does help insulate the body. Bald may be beautiful, but in cold weather it allows heat to flow away from the body more quickly. (Compensate by wearing extra layers of wool or synthetic materials designed for the situation.)

In cold weather, the natural oils of the skin help prevent skin injuries (dry skin, chapped lips and splits or small cuts to exposed skin).

If expecting to be active in cold weather, wash your body the night before (instead of the morning of the same day) so that your body has several hours to replenish the oils on the skin.

This stuff isn't just a "Russian" thing. It's part of the cold-weather-survival training given to people around the world. And it's taught because it's been demonstrated to work.

Wow I sure missed a lot of important discussion...

I'm a very tolerant and accepting person I'm now figuring out. I tolerate the bad things people do (once I care about them) and accept that these things are parts of them. Some of my friends are liars, some isolate themselves/focus on one/few people, some can't take anything seriously, some are socially awkward, and some say terrible things about their friends behind their backs. But I accept this, since they all like to share a lot with me. (ego moment: I understand people very well, of course they'd tell me all their thoughts about situations and other people!)

Look at the hair on your arms and tell me how much air you think is going to be trapped under there. Now imagine a breeze. I think you get my point. The only area where it really might have an impact is your head.

We know fat works for keeping you warm because animals who live in cold climates use it all the time.

and if hair is supposed to keep us warm why did we lose it over most of our body.
