my first thought was sandbagging, which is a rather fnny thing to have in an attendance record

Sandbagging is what that was; it's at a small town high school and all upperclassmen had that on their attendance records when the river by the school was flooding this year when they were somewhat forced to volunteer placing sandbags to hold back the water from destroying the town and school.
