They shut down the interwebs because people used it to organize protests. Essentially this president guy (Mubarak is his name or something) has asked all of the government to step down except for him. The streets of Cairo are militarized and the people want Mubarak out. Concern is that the Muslim Brotherhood(issentially a backwards ass Muslim group. Note: Not saying all muslims are.) will try to come in and make things go their way. With luck Egypt will overthrow the current guy, have elections and install a true democracy where they have rights and censorship is not allowed.
