The Observer
I kept using that too until it kept turning into the big smile (this one -> :D ) on MSN. This was especially one of the things to avoid considering I was talking to a friend who's father passed away, and then used it just from shear habit. Goonstalf
Droppin' a seriousbomb on the thread. [hide]BACKGROUND: I met a guy who we'll call Mike at Transfer Student Orientation, and he introduced me to his friend, let's say Jenny, and we hit it off pretty well; hanging out a few times in the past week and pretty much all day today. Today I just talked Jenny, who I've known for about a week, out of killing herself. I got a text from Mike to meet Jenny at this fountain on campus. He told me that after her parents kicked her out of the house about 3 weeks ago she had moved in with him but had been acting strangely. Tonight she sent him a text pretty much like, "Thanks for always being there for me, I think I'll go to the fountain one last time." He doesn't live on campus so he told me to book it to the fountain as fast as I could while he called the police and her parents. So I ran 10 minutes to this fountain and saw her sitting by herself at a picnic table. I sat down with her and we just kinda chatted about nothing for a while. She eventually stopped replying to me, so we just sat together without saying anything. She was acting very weird; looking around her and glancing in her bag. I knew that she was serious. So at this point I put my arm around her shoulders, looked her in the eyes, and told her how much Caleb and I care about her. She starts to tear up and push away from me. I remembered that hanging out today we had come across a post on a community board about some "Yoga Fest" in September and we had joked about going, so while she's gathering her things to leave I asked her if she wanted to go, to which she just shook her head and rolled her eyes. I persisted, kept asking her, telling her how much fun it would be, but she just kept looking away and sighing, starting to get angry and the tears flowing a bit more. As she stands up, I stand up with her and grab her hand and tell her to promise me she'll come to Yoga Fest with us because it wouldn't be the same without her and we need her. Completely breaking down crying, she manages to say yes. I gave her a big hug and sat back down with her for about thirty minutes until her parents finally came and took her home. The police called me about ten minutes ago and told me that they found a lethal amount of a prescription drug in her bag and that she had been cutting herself for the 3 weeks since things started going down hill. Her parents took her back in and she's going to start getting help. True story. Holy [cabbage], what a night.[/hide] I'm going to milk Goon's teats
