I know most people don't do origami

But if you do... this is an icosahedron made from 30 Sonobe units.

The painting is just an acrylic on canvas.

Abstract

Don't worry, we have had people post origami on The Gallery before :)

And the painting. Eh, it needs work.

My relaxation method involves a bottle of lotion, beautiful women, and partial nudity. Yes I get massages.

Ugh, people don't understand the basics behind abstract art or anything that isn't realism. You can't just slobber paint on canvas and call it abstract art, that's just you throwing paint on a canvas.

As much as I hate abstract art, I have to defend it in its place, where you murdered the essence of "art."

All abstract art has a purpose and composition. Hell, all art has that. I can't see anything that resembles form or shape in your piece. Yeah, you have those two giant blocks of color, but what purpose do they serve and why are they on the two ends of the canvas board? It distracts the viewer's eyes and makes the painting unbearable. Abstract art also has a very small color palette. Take a look at Picasso or Kandinsky. They both had a natural reference and used abstractions of geometric shapes to represent those natural objects. And they did it successfully by limiting their color palette to 4-5 colors to bring out what they wanted to represent.

Come back when you have something you want to portray in your piece, and we'll talk. Right now its a blob of paint.

If you look closely, there are Spatters of complementary colors on each block.

It represents the way an Individual can stand out in a group of conformists.

except that you're drawn to the largest part of the image (well not really drawn to anything, your focal is skewed between the red and blue) which would mean that the conformists (who are the largest group) are the ones standing out, not the individual. The little splatters on the canvas do nothing to it.

Shin pretty much summed up what I was going to say though, there is just no composition at all to this piece. I'm really not sure on why you picked red/blue either.

*sigh...

You can't just create subject material out of a piece like that. There has to be a purpose, a clear hint of purpose and intention of the piece. If you were trying to portray "nonconformism," there would be less dots in the center than inside the blocks. Also, usage of color is important as well. I can't tell there were colors inside the blocks, therefore you have to choose colors carefully to show those dots inside the blocks.

There are few questions you have to ask yourself:

What am I trying to show?

How am I going to do it? (Media)

Does this piece make sense to the viewer?

After finishing the piece, does text in the piece make my message any clearer?

Those four questions will help you a lot. Also, you should look up the rule of thirds. Two giant blocks distract the viewer. Try adding a third box.
