Underground Pass map: http://www.tip.it/runescape/index.php?p ... d_pass.htm

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the walkthrough, there's a paragraph that says "Proceed through the cave you will run into an area with two paths; one is a swamp that you won't be able to cross, and the other a big hole in the ground." This is now incorrect, the swamp has been replaced with a Rope Swing. This means that the Underground Pass map has to be updated.

I will put another post like this under the Maps & Calculators sub-forum.

The image is from the opposite side. The quest guide is from the entrance inwards, the image you posted is as if you were going out via the entrance.

Noting you walk east from the west side not west from the east die during the quest.

That still doesn't change the fact that the swamp is no longer there, regardless of whether you can cross or not, and regardless what side of the chasm you're on. The guide through the Pass says there's a swamp, but since that swamp is no longer there, the instructions are now incorrect (I actually kinda got confused when it said a swamp and there was no swamp).

The swamp is the section to south of the path not the fork your looking at.

On the map its the first the first area you come to with the blessed spiders.

You're not looking closely enough. On my ImageShack picture, above me you can see the swamp area and below me you can see the grid you have to walk across. That matches my location on the Underground Pass map which I'm referring to, marked by the "Use Rope" icon on the map.

It's strange, because the map has the swamp still there but mentions the rope swing dropping you in a different area (the yellow line).

This is definitely a quest that needs re-working. Too much text that isn't correct or clear.

Koftik will give you a damp cloth, use an arrow with it, use the wrapped arrow on the fire and you will get a lit arrow. Now you need to shoot the lit arrow at the guide rope on the bridge across the river. To do this go into the room to the north with your bow and arrow equipped and take your shot and you should automatically walk over the bridge. Do not pull the lever unless you want to walk back to the other side! Go into the room north of the bridge and take a plank; you will need this later on.

Proceed through the cave you will run into an area with two paths; one is a swamp that you won't be able to cross, and the other a big hole in the ground. Go to the hole and use the rope on the [bleep]e of your side of the chasm and your character will attempt to walk across as if on a tightrope. If you fail you fall into an area full of rocks it will hurt a bit, so have food on this part. All you have to do is follow the path and climb over some rock slides, you should find the end of the trail eventually.

If you read it carefully your coming from the location with the plank and then see to paths; one with a swamp (to the south) and one with a big gap (to the east). You can't pass the swamp at all just like the guide states.

Theres been a rope swing on the return path for as long as I've been playing and used the underground pass (about 3 years ago was the first time I used the path).

The only notable thing is maybe fill the green return section on the map with black to avoid confusing people.

If below is what your on about I apologize.

That's the point...perhaps there was a swamp there at one time (when the guide was created) and that swampy looking green spot confused the user.

It didn't confuse me, but I didn't really concentrate on the swamp part.

The guide could stand to be re-written and the map updated. Too bad it doesn't appear to be one of the provided underground maps by Jagex in-game.

  • 3 months later...

A nice buff of this guide JUST to number the steps and clarify things like the above is definitely in order. Hopefully we can get a crewbie familiar with the area (redoing the quest is not needed) to fix it up. (Sadly, I cannot edit this guide.)

EDIT 23 Oct 2009: a crewbie has edited the quest map so that the "jump over" (the rope swing bits) show as black, the same as in the game now. Hopefully that makes it clear that part is not swamp. We do have someone assigned to buff this guide, as well.

Locking.

it's a lot easier to get over yourself when you look at intelligence the same way you look at beauty, or height, or eye color: being smart is easy, but being good is hard ... being smart is handed to you, being good is handed to *nobody*.
