You should have an application called "Preview" on your Mac. Whenever you open a picture it should open in that application. Once it's opened up, just click and drag the part of your picture that you want. Then go Tools > Crop (or [apple] + [k]).

Sorry but I have to stress a pet peeve here. The fact that it's a dell is not important, dell is only a hardware manufacturer, you should have said you know how to crop screenshots on windows, which is the operating system(comparable to osx, which is the operating system that macs use).

Also since it seems, from the other posts that osx does not have a bitmap editor, I'd recommend getting gimp(a much better version of "paint") for any other similar issues that wont be worked out by the default image viewer

It's implied for a Dell to use Windows. The OP may or may not have information on the OS, if he cares at all.

You don't need GIMP to take a simple screenshot because OS X has these functions built right in. Tripis explained one way, a way that enables the user to select the portion of the screen. Two other methods include keyboard shortcuts.

Command-Shift-3: Take a screenshot of the screen, and save it as a file on the desktop

Command-Shift-4, then space, then click a window: Take a screenshot of a window and save it as a file on the desktop

No cropping required.

They cut back on the number of laptops/desktops being sold with them, but they still sold enough to warrant the question of the OS.

Yeah, I've seen those before.

Even if so, then he knows how to crop under Ubuntu and not OS X.
