Every time you get a kill, you will lose some of your potential in exchange for a drop. The more potential lost, the better the drop (generally). Hope that helps. I think it depends on how high it is, if it is really high, you are more likely to get more good items than if it was low. Many believe that the 1980 eruption of Mt. That's basically it, 100% holds very little benefit over 40, except for the fact that you can PvP longer before you go back to getting drops from a less loaded table.
