By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest;

Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.

Yes

Jagex have said it is against their rules and as such you can get banned for it.

It's nearly impossible to prove though.

give F2P a penny and they want a dime; give P2P a quarter, they want 100,000 dollars, your car, house, boat, social security number, credit card numbers, drivers license, clothes on your back and everything you ever owned or interacted with ever

Yes. If you spend an entire night at bandits or wind striking rats without a single movement or message, it's pretty obvious. So, if they know you're breaking the rules, you'll get banned.

They don't really care about small afking, though, like attacking a monster then going to the bathroom or making lunch, or turning rest on and leaving the computer to get full run and more health the next time you log in.

if you're actually AFK i guess it could be considered cheating, but if you're watching the game i think its just exploiting a trick jagex unintentionally left for us

AFK training, yes. Unless you're getting food or something. Being AFK, no.

Nemo vir est qui mundum non reddat meliorem..

Jagex rule database: It falls under this section: Macroing, and use of bots or third-party software

6. What is AFK training?

AFK training is Away From Keyboard training. While you are playing on our games, you must be at the computer. Away-from-keyboard training is not allowed, and you should log out when you leave the computer.

So ya it is.
