I'm 99.5% sure you can't since you can't play gifs in windows photo viewer(?) or picasa.

 

 

 

Edit: You might want to look in the on line gadget repository for one that can play gifs. :thumbup:

 

Alright, thanks. I knew someone whould post a link to google and I have tried that with no avail. Anyways question answered proceed to lock this thread mods.

Since sidebar gadgets are based on HTML, I don't see why you shouldn't be able to add a GIF. Although all or most of the animation in the sidebar (Like the CPU meter that comes with it) is based on JavaScript as far as I know.
