Which components on my computer should i improve for HD?

Featured Replies

Hello, i don't have a clue about computer specs, but i was wondering what could i buy to make my computer faster, and be able to run HD lag free. HD does run, but it is very very laggy.

Here are the specs i think:

Windows Vista Home Premium.

Intel Celeron CPU 2.66GHz

0.99 GB Ram

Intel 82945G Express Chipset Family

Thanks for helping, it is really appreciated.

Quite simple, any current Nvidia or Ati card. Intel integrated graphics is the worst kind of graphics card you can have.

Ðo you intend on playing other games as well? If yes, what kind of games(examples)?

Nothing to replace (except the PSU depending on the card) actually.

Make and model of the computer would help a great deal.

First of all I would upgrade the ram to 2gb as vista will easily use the 1gb in background applications and RS HD is pretty ram/cpu heavy.

  • Dragon Axe x11
    Berserker Ring x9
    Warrior Ring x8
    Seercull
    Dragon Med
Dragon Boots x4 - all less then 30 kc
    Godsword Shard (bandos)
    Granite Maul x 3

Solo only - doesn't include barrows[/hide][hide=Stats]

Ok so guys i should buy a nvidia or ati card and 2gb ram, and will this make HD playable?

Also, not sure which other games i'l play, maybe Quakelive? Probably not anything else.

To be frank, everything but the OS needs replacement for long-term efficiency. If you just want to play HD, you'll need to up your RAM to at least 2GB with a GPU at ~256mb. ATI and Nvidia both excel in graphic card production and distribution; it's personal preference. My choice would be with ATI, as I've heard numerous reports on faulty Nvidia chips. While the faults are limited to those card only, it looks bad on the company. I'm sure more experienced users will be able to give you good feel for a decent GPU.

There should be a model number/name on your receipt or somewhere on your case.

I can't comment on nVidia cards but I will say that if you're looking into buying a new graphics card, I've recommend this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814125244

I have it one of my older computers (heavily upgraded Dell Dimension 8400) and it runs amazingly. People complain about fan noise, but I've never heard a thing.

Also just max out the RAM to whatever your computer can hold. 4GB if you have 32bit Vista, or maybe more if you have 64bit Vista and your motherboard can handle it all, but 4GB is usually more than enough.

Weird, I've never heard of problems about faulty Nvidia chips. Maybe you're mistaken laura? I've never had any problems with Nvidia cards either (I repair computers for friends sometimes. I've seen and had numerous problems with Ati card drivers though.

I don't mean to hate on either company. Driver issues are one thing, where the software can be corrected, but these were flat out faulty. You shouldn't have a problem if you're buying a card from them now, it just looks like a bad past to me - a consumer.

Thanks OldJoe, I hadn't seen that at all.
