I would recommend training to 70 defense and get barrow armor. If not, the Head-Helm of Neiz(pretty standard)Neck-Amulet of GloryBody-(Rune/Granite platebody)Legs-(Rune/dragon plateskirt/legs)Feet-Dragon/rune bootsShield-Rune DefenderGloves-best RFD glove you can afford or the one from underground passRing-Ring of wealth/warrior's ring/imbued MTA ring.Cape-Legend's cape Think I covered them all. And about the quest items, you're asking about the best armor setup and RFD gloves will be there. The best gloves, best all round helm and some of the best weapons all come as a reward from quests. I mean, quest items such as Barrow Gloves, Helm of Nez etc... etc... are the best pieces of armour in the game, and they're not exactly hard to get... Why would you not want quest items? ...
