Music Sharing Programs

Featured Replies

If this topic is against the rules, feel free to lock it (I guess). Also, please keep comments against this to yourself, rather than beginning a moral discussion.

Basically, I've come to a point where I can't afford to listen and buy all the music that I'd like to. Although it's not something I'd prefer to do, the idea of using a sharing program has become more and more appealing.

Basically, I'd like to know which program would be safest and best to use on my PC. Also, if there is another method (such as recording Youtube mp3s) that would be better, please suggest it.

Keep in mind that it's always nice to own a physical CD, and I'm happy to support artists I enjoy - I just can't donate to everyone.

Utorrent, although this thread will probably get locked in a little bit.

I'm almost certain its against the rules to ask questions like this.

Why uTorrent over others?

By the way, I've pretty much ruled out Limewire (because I heard it screws your PC).

And my cousin uses Ares. What about that?

uTorrent is lightweight and simple. Limewire doesn't screw your pc its the files you download.

Well, I've heard Limwire isn't great - more people putting bad files I assume.

Also, what can I do to help prevent downloading a rigged file?

J'adore aussi le sexe et les snuff movies

Je trouve que ce sont des purs moments de vie

Je ne me reconnais plus dans les gens

Je suis juste un cas désespérant

Et comme personne ne viendra me réclamer

And you can't get through with proxies anymore...

If you want to listen to music without having to pay for anything, legally at least, then try this site:

http://www.acidplanet.com/default.asp?Cookie=

Additionally, you could also download this program and listen to "ShoutCast", and "ShoutCast TV", radio:

http://www.winamp.com/

I know it is very favorable to download the music illegally, unless you have no other recourse based on the region you live in, but the RIAA and other organizations are having a field day putting out fake files that are in effect there for entrapment purposes and not to mention that you also have to deal with the loads of real files that have malware attached to them.

For the purposes of downloading audio files from youtube videos here is a lifehacker.com article on how to do so:

http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2008/04/record_youtube_music_videos_to_mp3-2/

If you still feel these are not a decent enough option then here is a about.com article listing the top torrent programs. (Torrents are legal, just not for the purposes this individual intends on using it for)

http://netforbeginners.about.com/od/peersharing/f/torrentclients.htm

For future reference you may also want to read the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, if you live in the U.S. of course, to know what warrants "Fair Use".

Any program that works the same way Limewire does for sharing files, ares being one of them, people will put a lot of bad files in there. Here's the rating people give to the ares site: http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/www.ares.net

utorrent is the way to go, it's hard for people to put viruses and have seeders.

Can't let this one stay open. Any concerns, PM me.
