Veiva
Surprisingly, there's no thread about this wonderful game! Torchlight is game made by some people who worked on far more famous games, such as Diablo. I rarely find games addicting enough to win them in a few days (World of Goo, Metroid Prime, and this game are practically the only ones on this list), but this game just has a certain feel to it that kept me playing. The story is probably the only lacking bit. The boss fights are fun (one of them took me about 15 minutes to take down, causing me to respawn several times...), the art style is nice, the dungeons are interesting (and a lot of the parts are randomly generated); these are only a few of the many bits. You basically have one dungeon that you need to go through to the end. [spoiler=Images of the game on my second run-through] So I'm basically wondering, who else plays this game? What class did you choose? Difficulty? To start this off, I've won the game once on normal (since this is the first game of its kind that I've played), and now am trying it on Hard. For both, I chose Alchemist, since I prefer using magic (the one skill belonging to the Alchemist is great for clearing away whole bunches of enemies). After I win it on Hard, I'll probably try Very Hard with a Destroyer.
Soma2035
Saw it. Didn't look like it was worth $20. Instead, I went back and played Diablo. =p Also, while the graphical quality may be better, I actually found the graphics from Diablo more to my liking... the atmosphere was just better, in my opinion. Shiny
I much prefer the darker, more ominous art style of Diablo and Diablo II, and this is a step in the wrong direction. Looks fun, i'll just wait for Diablo III, personally.
Nadril
I broke down and bought this a few days ago, it's a great game and very good looking too I think. Playing an alchemist, currently level 19 and really specializing in that aoe tree. Maxed out my crit buff (like 100% + critical damage +10 crit hit) and working on maxing out my Ember (something) spell, which is just a channeled spell that does a ton of damage. Playing on hard although I really should have played on very hard, only died twice (stupid accidents) so far.
Shiny
I made the mistake of playing on Very easy. Now I can't change it.I really love the art style. Yeah, I gave in and bought it off Steam.
venomai
I really love the art style.Hah. I thought it was a step in the wrong direction? If you aren't playing on hardcore mode, you can change difficulty like so:http://forums.runicgames.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4969 If you are playing on hardcore mode, you can pick up a tool (there are a couple floating around the RunicGame forums) to adjust difficulty. -- Torchlight is a great low-budget game, and it truly exceeds in terms of its moddability. The editor is extremely powerful and relatively easy to use. Almost all aspects of the game can be changed -- from meshes, to classes, to skills, to dungeons, to GUI... the list goes on. The modding community is bustling right now, and a few modding efforts are beginning to stand out in particular:Steampunk ClassCommunity CampaignCo-op Multiplayer Right now I'm working on my own mods -- small ones for now, to get a feel for it. Eventually I hope to release one or two crafting mods (I'm already working on a cooking mod), and ultimately a "Zombie-Infested-Mall" mod. Imagine the Destroyer slashing hundreds of zombies with a golf club or chainsaw in a Torchlight-style mall.
