Well, I came back after a long absence. Waterfiends were and I believe still are a great source for Crimson Charms. Everybody always does it with ranged prayer and mage-defense gear. Altough this is uncommon, has anyone ever tested going in with mage prayer and granite gear against the ranged attacks?

The Ranged attacks are also magic based, so it wouldn't help.

I did a mithril dragon trip a few days ago (was trying out an AGS there) and decided to finish my food at waterfiends, to nab a few charms aswell! It didnt go too well, though. (I was in torags with nezzy helm, regen brace, dragon boots ect.... I tried praying mage, and was taking damage VERY quickly, so it seems their attacks are all mage based, ah well, I WILL BE BACK! :twisted:

Wouldn't a magic based range attack just be a magic attack? - Oh no of course not, since range prayer protects you from it.

 

They do seem to hit you with it whatever your range defence is though, so even if you're not using a protection prayer at all it's still best to wear mage defence.

It does not work, the same way that praying mage in Guthans does not work. It's not that the range attack is STRONGER, it's that the range attack is so much more COMMON.

 

So if the range and mage attack both have roughly the same strength, but the range attack is used 3x more, you'd take 3x more damage from range.
