October 30, 200520 yr Back to the topic :) I usually avoid RL comparisons, but... If a kid whines and whines that he wants to candy for dinner, what happens if you give him/her candy? Answer: they will expect cnady for dinner all the time. So, why would we make this well-thingy so that nooby players would really get FREE STOOF!? The begging would actually get worse! It's bad parenting as far as I'm concerned. Don't worry, they'll understand when they're older :) lpinkus ^^ Perfectly worded :D

But a donation machine!? Come now. If everyone agreed on one way of reacting to begging, it would diminish. Personally, I say "Go kill things." If it *does* go farther than that, like the player says "I can't kill thngs, I week," I say "I used to be level X, too." I've never had anyone continue to pester me after that. I thought the info guy in Lumbridge was a good fix to this, but perhaps it's not working. If you talk to him he mentions that begging will make one unpopular. lpinkus
October 31, 200520 yr Author I would not expect you too. Are you really that vain? Have your heard of a time called night. Have you ever heard of things called time-zones?

October 31, 200520 yr Why do you all want to shut up noobs? then runescape will be even more silent :( I just prefer to have some chatting with any1, even if its a noob. That can even be quite cool :P *remember theyre almost normal people!* To illustrate what runescape will be like when every1 has to shut up, take a visit to the most boring spot in runescape: the fishing guild. I wish I never reached the level to enter there man, silence silence and boreness to every1... *SIGH* Cyah King 2004
October 31, 200520 yr To shut a noob up, just talk to it in a foreign language. LOL! Miami Heat 4ever fan.Yes, i'm a girl! I like to watch NBA, so? =]]Thanks star_in_the_sky for the AMAZING sig and eckered for the great avvy!!
October 31, 200520 yr Just get someone to give stuff to the noobs http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.
October 31, 200520 yr What if there was some kind of well, tree or other object in somewhere like Lumbridge or Varrock (but not in a crowded place) which items would spawn from? For those of you whom are familiar Neopets, this would be like the money/donations tree. Players could choose to donate their items at select locations around the world, and the items would appear at this special spawn point for junk or stuff people don't want. It could be quite useful for players who are quitting and don't know what to do with their stuff. It would also (hopefully) reduce the amount of begging that goes on in the game. i think a donation pool like this would be a horrible idea. this would be the only place noobs would hang out, and theyll never go anywhere else in the game. plus, i makes noobs think that others are supposed to give them handouts, and makes them dependent on free stuff the way i deal with beggars is to simply say "stop begging. go hunt". it might not change the beggar into a hardworking runescape citizen, but it will stop him from bugging me or begging in my presence. i hate begging. the only time i ever asked a friend for stuff was my first day, while i was looking for tin and copper and found the al kharid mines. those scorpions made quick work of me and i lost all my stuff. once i learned that most newb items respawn around lumbridge castle, or can be bought in the shop for about 1 gp, the game just got easier for me. it actually is quicker to kill a varrock guard and buy a chisel in the shop than to repeat "i need free chisel plz" until somebody gives you one Are you a member with a full bank and cancelling your subscription? October 31, 200520 yr No thanks. Giving away free stuff means that beggars would never learn. They know that they don't have to play indepedently to get things, thus the whole point of playing is ridiculed. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
November 1, 200520 yr Make runescape nearly entirely pvp, but add stuff like prayer anti-wilderness(and non-pvp in banks, towns and such) or something like that, because at the moment noobs will follow you to the ends of the earth and back to get free stuff. Turn round and whack them easy, it also restarts the days that nearly everyone was in a clan or something for protection. http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.
November 1, 200520 yr Author No thanks. Giving away free stuff means that beggars would never learn. They know that they don't have to play indepedently to get things, thus the whole point of playing is ridiculed. Chances are, they're not going to learn anyway. This is fairly evident in the countless amounts of whining people who want your items. i think a donation pool like this would be a horrible idea. this would be the only place noobs would hang out, and theyll never go anywhere else in the game. plus, i makes noobs think that others are supposed to give them handouts, and makes them dependent on free stuff That's the entire POINT! We know from experience that they're not going to learn, and if they are, it can only be through their own self. This object or donation pool or whatever it could be, would keep them away from other players, and decrease the harassment and annoyance there is from people who can't get things for themself.
November 2, 200520 yr The easiest way to stop a beggar: Ignore List. IMO it's the best and easiest way to stop one. 122 Combat : 99 Hits : 99 Attack : 99 Strength97/99 Defence : 99 Fletching : 99 Woodcutting

This object or donation pool or whatever it could be, would keep them away from other players, and decrease the harassment and annoyance there is from people who can't get things for themself. i would certainly never contribute to this freebie pool if it existed. beggars annoy me, but i deal with them by simply telling them stop begging. it works, most of the time. either that, or let them follow you into the wild or the dark wizard circle. when theyre running for their life then they learn contributing noob stuff into a noob chest or whatever is a waste of time for low levels, since they cannot get any skills this way, and for high levels (unless jagex introduces a new skill called "generousity" or something like that). basically the idae will never work. its counterproductive for everyone involved. deal with your beggars. tell them stop begging. tell them kill stuff and get money and buy their own stuff. thats how all the high levels got the stuff that they got anyway. nobody gets rich by begging, not in real life, and not in runescape. expose beggars for the pathetic scum they are, and 99% of the time you will solve the problem of harrassment, and youll feel better deep down inside... I'm not obliged to help beggars. yes, I must agree with you there......if beggars never move out of Lumbridge Castle or Varrock, they will not see what the game is all about.....they certainly will not make and friends (except the "friends" that they just mooch off of), and they are just annoying to everyone.......I would almost go so far to say that Jagex should give a five-day ban to anyone who says "free st00f plz", or anything to that effect......it might help a bit :/
November 3, 200520 yr Havent you ever heard of beggars cant be choosers so beggars dont deserve anything if they truly knew how to make any money they could make it quite easily they are just either lazy or ignorant
November 4, 200520 yr I thought the info guy in Lumbridge was a good fix to this, but perhaps it's not working. If you talk to him he mentions that begging will make one unpopular. lpinkus Do you honestly think that after 30+ minutes of listening to boring tutorials, they'd like to waste an extra minute more on something thats optional? Honestly, I do feel many of them would. Nooby people seem to be fairly curious. And, even if they don't talk to the guy right away, I'm sure they would in the first week. I roamed Lumby for a few days before I even realized there were other towns :) lpinkus
November 4, 200520 yr That has pros and cons. Pros: It may stop the flow of begging. (Duh) Cons: People will donate things like burnt bread and eventually the 'tree' will be cluttered up. I however am on the fence with this idea, but I think if they do do it there should be like a block that allows useless items to be contributed.
November 4, 200520 yr ipinkus, i think i agree with you completely. most fresh-of-the-boat noobs are genuinely clueless about how to get around and become independent. most of them go about it the wrong way, but i've helped noobs as well as insulted them for begging. but lots of them really dont want to be a nusance and would rather get on the good side of strong players, so they are usually willing to show they are worthy of your friendship and help. i think asking for help is honorable, even though sometimes annoying, but i'm a helpful dude so i help if somebody asks in a nice and mannerly way. but walking around varrock center repeating "im a noob, need free stuff plz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" is what i cant stand Are you a member with a full bank and cancelling your subscription? November 4, 200520 yr Maybe there should be some sort of special noob sever that gives away free stuff, no? oh well To help noobs you must not look at them as sub-players, you must look at them as you in the same situation, lets say you just started and are completely lost, and don't know about any of the help pages. You see a lvl 40 walk past, You think 'cor s/hes good' then you ask something. 1 of 2 things could happen: 1 they ignore you(this is what creates noobs) 2 they help you then you understand more about the game then learn from it When helping a noob/newb you need to lay down that you aren't gonna give them free stuff for no reason. You say that you are going to help them as much as you can. That way if they beg then you can give them a warning(if its playful then fair enough) then a more stern warning then stop helping them for a few days then ask them if they are gonna ask again. If they do then you say that you are not going to look after them, and that if they want to get stuff then they should work for it. Just lay down the law on them the people who can't do anything but beg will give up if no one helps them. http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

November 5, 200520 yr Maybe there should be some sort of special noob sever that gives away free stuff, no? oh well Yes, "no." Heh. Making a "noob" server that provides that sort of charity seems to be rewarding noobish behavior, and that's bad. We don't want to reinforce the idea that they deserve to get items for free. lpinkus
