December 8, 200916 yr Silver Dragon Hatchling What do you think? I did use a reference from a D&D (wewt) book. EDIT: sig by Soa.....tip.it times.....art & mediadeviantart/flickr/last.fm/steam/twitter/tumblr/youtube
December 8, 200916 yr Well..I'm going to be honest. It seems that you cannot decide where the light is coming from at times (bad shading), the body, looks out of proportion with the legs and neck, the feet need a lot of work, and it looks as if you just added the claws without thinking. Plus the tail seems to be too straight. EDIT: The front hind leg actually looks a little strange too, especially compared to the rear hind leg, and the front leg. December 8, 200916 yr Author Any specific places where shading is out of line? Because I felt that (besides being really dark) it was fairly decent. It being a baby dragon, it ought to look out of proportion, yes? Since I can't find my reference on the internet... sig by Soa.....tip.it times.....art & mediadeviantart/flickr/last.fm/steam/twitter/tumblr/youtube
December 8, 200916 yr Well, I'll start with the gleam in the eye which indicates the light is coming more from above it, maybe a bit to the right. This would leave the underside particularly dark, however, you have the chest light, and the tail dark, which would indicate the light is coming from the front. And while some parts should be out of proportion on a hatchling dragon (for example, I believe it should have pretty small wings compared to the body), when you compare the neck to the body, it doesn't make sense, the neck appears too thick, that and it doesn't look like it is attached, it looks like it is more behind the body. The lower part of the hind leg looks particularly comical compared to the leg on the other side, and the front leg, and whilst I'm at it, the legs don't look able to support the body. As for the "paws" (that's how they look) at the front, they seem to belong more to say..A lion cub than a hatchling dragon, and the claws look pretty strange, just stuck on and hanging in mid-air. Also, if you need some help, a good way is to look at what others have produced (advice I found on a site when learning to draw manga style-humans, it advised to make fan-art basically, for practice.) Anyway, a good site (and I even done the search) would be Elfwood. http://search.elfwood.com/search.jsp?query=Dragon%20Hatchling&start=0&hitsPerPage=20 There's the first page of the search, go through it and see what you can find, though some look pretty amatuer. EDIT: Whilst I'm at it, I reccomend finding a style you like to draw in, then focus on that. Denizen of Darkness| PSN= sworddude198

December 10, 200916 yr You've gotten a LOT better, at least in this style. The baby/hatchling is a little strange in some parts anatomically (of course there is nothing real to compare it to so it could be fine) but the adult looks pretty good to me. December 10, 200916 yr The second dragon looks really good ! Though the legs could be a little longer ...
December 10, 200916 yr If the above one is you first one ever: pretty good for a first one.The second is nice! I'd like to see that one rendered digitally like someone did with Runes for the RS Postbag. December 10, 200916 yr You've improved, especially in the adult one. There's shading, although I would personally give it a bit more contrast. Also, when you fill in empty spaces with pencil, make one even layer, extremely light, at a time by shading it in one direction, then switch angles and add another extremely light layer and repeat. Not only is it easier to erase but it looks a lot more even. If you get what I mean.
