Waterfiend task

Featured Replies

Hello all. Recently i got assigned a waterfiend task from duradell. I thought it wouldn't be that bad of a deal so i looked up some guides and went off...

It was a horrible venture. I had killed no more than 15 before i had exhausted all of my supplies.

Is there a more efficient way to kill wfs that won't cost me 1+ mil each task?

I am using mage defense gear with torag's hammers as my crush weapon.

I was praying prot from range but i didn't hit enough. I was using about 2 doses of prayer pots per kill.

Any advice?

My stats are 77 atk, 73 strength, 75 def, 77hp, 62 prayer and 64 magic

Borrow a zamorakian spear/saradomin sword, much more effective than torag hammers. If you weren't using pure sets yet, do that. 10% strength prayer/chivalry would help too but would drain even more ppoints.

It will stay a hard task until you have higher melee stats and a bunyip, you could consider skipping them but the crimsons are pretty good, it's all up to you. I'd say at least try it one more time with a zs/ss.

Mate i was in the same boat as you. To be 100% i suggest canceling it until your stats are higher. Possibly 80's+ otherwise you will have waaay more trips than i did (4)

Basically i had Karils Top and Skirt, Zammy Spear, Fury, D boots, Barrow Gloves, Berserker Ring.

My inventory i have 15 Sharks and prayed Range Protect whenever i attacked them. I averaged like.. 40 per task? Ish.. Without Bunyip.

You could give it a try if you are reaaaally reaaaaally desperate doing a few at a time. But it will take a while.

I had the same problem yesterday when I attempted my first waterfiend task.

Here's what I found out:

1. Z spear is the best weapon, as far as a good balance between cost and power. If you have a lot of money though, SS is better.

2. While they are still agressive to me, I pray range and piety. After they go nonagressive, just pray range.

3. Healing is a big deal here. Enhanced excalibur makes a HUGE difference, and I don't think I would even go near this task without a bunyip. I'd skip it until you have 68 summoning for bunyip, since the waterfiends drop raw sharks and lobsters often, which makes the 'swallow whole' ability really useful.

4. You might want to skip it anyways until your stats are higher, but you should be able to pull it off if you bring super attack+strength potions.

My invent was 6 pray pots, super atk/str potion, enhanced excalibur, teletab, swallow whole scrolls, extra bunyip pouch, and the rest sharks.

With my stats, which are reasonably high (89/88/88) I was able to do about 80-100 per trip, finishing my 176 task in 2 trips.

If you had a bunyip, you'd probably be able to finish it in about 4 trips, but without that it might take you a long time.

EDIT: Just checked out equipment stats, and I noticed that if you can't afford a z spear or SS, then try using a dragon battleaxe+rune defender combo instead.

It gives you +18 more strength (!!) than the torags hammers, plus all the defense bonuses from the defender.

I think they may still be doable at your level (80+ stats would make a noticeable difference for you, though).

If you do them, make sure to get the fairy ring in the Ancient Cavern working so you can use that (assuming you've done the quest). This makes banking trips rather fast. If you don't have a Bunyip (I'm guessing you don't), try using a terrorbird, or at least a bull ant and bring apple pies to stay longer (plan on eating a bite after nearly each kill).

Keep praying range and use super pots. In the end, it will be worth it.

EDIT: Invest in a Zammy Spear as well. Jagex keeps adding more and more weak-to-stab and weak-to-crush creatures, it seems. You can always sell it later.

Bunyips and Enhanced Excaliburs there really are key even if you pray, with a combination of 2 yip pouches, EE, 12 ppots, 6 monkfish, and 90 melee stats I did a task of 244 in one trip (That new master is hardcore  ).
