Returning to Runescape after about a year break...Anything new?

Hey guys, I am returning to RS after roughly a year break, and was just wondering what all is new in the world of Runescape? I also had some questions, like if Runecrafting is still a pretty viable source of gold? I am sure I will think of more after I play some more but in the mean time, but thank you! =] Glad to be back!

 

Oh, how is the player vs. player now? Are there still Castle Wars and the Wild?

The wild doesn't exist as we knew it. It is in the game, but you can't PK there anymore. There are a few servers dedicated to PvP. You can PK virtually anywhere on those worlds, but it isn't as fun, and it caused massive inflation. Dharok sets are about 10M each now due to inflation. Armadyl Godswords were 60M last summer, but now they're back up to 125M.

 

Some fun quests were released, but RS is still very boring.

 

Prices all went to hell because they're inflated up very high. It's easy to make gold, but yeah, it's not worth much. 30M isn't even considered a lot anymore.

 

Nats aren't very profitable anymore. They are like 200gp each, and pure essence costs well over 100gp each. You can't run laws on world 66 anymore cause of some trade limits.

Nats are currently 262, and pure ess is about 146. As far as 30m isn't considered a lot, that's an opinion. To me, 30m is still a lot because I've never been rich. Sure, it can't buy as much as it used to, but it's still an opinion, and should be stated as such.

Anyway, most Castle War worlds are empty. There's like only a few worlds dedicated to it now (if that). A new game called Soul Wars replaced Castle Wars. Poor good ol' Castle Wars. :(

 

So yeah, the game is very different from what it used to be. A lot of people adapted to it, and a lot of people quit. I personally got used to the trade restrictions, but it does suck. There aren't really any bots anymore, though.

The changes Jagex made that most people view as "worse" were to stop Real World trading. If they didn't make those changes, Runescape would have most likely been shut down due to the mass amount of RWT, and I really don't see much bad about it. Everything's higher priced, oh well...make more money, this is just a game to have fun with, and if you need more money, just more things you can do.

 

I'm not sure if there are still people who do the nat alter thing, but you can, it's called Request assistance. You request someone's assistance with the required level, and you make the items and keep them while they get the experience.

 

There is Castle Wars still, as far as I can recall as of now, not too much has changed in CW a whole lot.

 

Yes, I still play, for the reason I stated above, it's just a game to have fun, and I still can have fun.

Keep in mind that I'm also a very high level player, so there isn't a lot of stuff for me to really do anymore. (in my opinion)

 

The best thing you can do is to just buy membership for one month and test the waters. If you don't like it, cancel membership and just move on.

 

Oh, and Zaros is finally about to return. We had a major quest not long ago that gave us our first glimpse of Zaros. That was pretty fun.

The game may be a lot different to what you remember but in my opinion it is better.

 

Jagex has put much more emphasis on having fun, it is not all about making gp, but about meeting friends and doing things together just for fun.

 

Try it for a month join in the events, you will love them. The Jmods make appearances much more often now too.

What exactly are these events that you guys are talking about? Are they just long quests or something? But yeah, I can see where you guys are coming from with how the changes Jagex made were to stop people from buying gold and all that. I will probably read up on the actual Runescape website as I am sure there is a page where I can read about all the new stuff you guys are talking about. Thanks again!

I'm sorry to tell you, bots have returned. In F2P in every mining guild are bots, while i was getting 99 fm, I met ~10 fm bots (and was just 3 days of FM'ing). Also on the forums people have noticed the return of the bots:

Bots have returned and we lost our trade freedom. In my opinion, we have to blame inflation on this one, high prices makes botting attracting. Before Jagex can fix the botting problem, they have to fix the merching clans (they bot at almost every world at GE autotalking) and inflation by pvp (which cause normal people bot).

 

Oh well, I don't want to change the topic of this thread to botting, but it's a misunderstood issue that botting is out of RS thanks to our trade limit.

I am not doubting you mate. But honestly. I have NEVER EVER EVER EVER seen a JMod in the game.. Not 5 Years ago. Not yesterday. Not today. :unsure:

They organize events / parties where you can go have a chat with them. They also do clan wars sometimes etc. You should check out the Jagex Lite and events official forums and also jagex' twitters. They can't have a jagex mod online in every world ;-) That'd be pointless and costly :o

Don't get why people who hate the game and barely play anymore are the ones who "welcome" you back...

 

Anyway, Runescape is different but still awesome.

Been some nice updates for high levels like the new prayers and potions... inflated prices simply mean you can make more money by obtaining and selling said items. Runecrafting is still good money, but doing something like killing green dragons for bones and hides is better right now.

I still love RS alot. I came back after a 3yrs break. Ok it stinks you can't help out lower RL friend players anymore with gear or items u give em for free.

It's also a big problem that the skillcapes now are the most important part in game for many of the people.

You can be L49cb and wear cook cape and insult everyone for being a 'noob' and get away with it.

I personally don't give a rat's bottom about the capes. I just wanna make fun and see RS world from all angles.

 

Merch clans, PvP glitch and many other things made the economy crash and the regular players like u and me are the victim from it.

But on the other hand, gold has become way easier to obtain so it's also normal the prices have gone up.

Nowadays you just gotta find ways to make cash and then use the cash to gain XP. While in the old days more people just gathered XP right away.

I have the feeling people have gotten lazier and just wanna make many millions a day, instead of gathering XP themselves...

 

Anyway, welcome back. Rs still rocks and there are still tons of place to have fun!

Well it sounds like it isn't as bad as I thought. But what exactly are these events that you guys are talking about? Are you referring to the holiday events or what?

Yes, we hold events every friday/saturday 00.01 gmt or saturday 21.00 gmt. Check out the events and gatherings posts. Also check out rsof, they have an events page where you will find numerous events advertised. Rs also have an official facebook page where events are advertised.

 

Over the Christmas period Jmods have been challenging people in the games room but I think that event is now over.

 

There is a lot going on out there these days. Have fun.
