fastortoise
awesome, my long-term bodybuilding goal is bench 2x my bodyweight as well. I'm at 125 lbs, benching 150 right now.is 150 your max or is that what you use for each of your sets? 170 is my max and I use a little less than 150 for my sets, we're around the same weight too  Do I hear the whistle of competition? Gross, It's all sweaty and stained-like.I've only worn that shirt 4 times in the past 18 months (see: pictures), I assure you its not sweaty Been waiting to see an update on this. I wish I wasn't too lazy to take pics myself when I started because it's real interesting seeing the difference in your pictures over the months. Keep up the good work man. Take a picture ASAP! It's never too late, I only thought of taking a picture 7 months into my training (the 2nd picture) and was lucky enough to find an old picture of me in a small shirt on my computer, so I retook that picture in the same pose and voila! That was 1-rep, now I do my sets with 145 or 155. So I'm pretty close to the 200 mark already, feels good  I also want to bench double my body weight and I had set that goal for 2011 but that's not gonna happen... if I ready 200 by 2011 i'll be thrilled. damn son you're getting swole. you should get a time machine and beat up your former self' date=' because you totally could.[/quote']thanks, i'd rather not bust my balls acquiring a time machine.. i'll just beat up other nerds instead. fastortoise
Im still surprised you're able to keep it up despite the large booze intake. It's easy - every time I intake a large quantity of booze I go out for lunch the next day after with friends, we cure our hangovers with a greasy lunch (sometimes it's dinner) and then hit the gym. I'll never get a beer belly this way, and after the gym and a shower my day totally restarts, ready for more alcolol  No updates in this post, I'm still aiming for the 200 bench press goal for 2011 but it's gonna be close! fastortoise
So it's been around 30 months since I began working out and two years since I started this thread, time for an update. I've gained ~20 lbs in the last 2 months due to a new interesting "regime" of eating fat foot, drinking beer like a Canadian and sleeping and being slack on the cardio. At first I felt like I was changing as much as when puberty hit, but that's cause I was underweight my whole life. Right now I'm pretty sure I'm at my ideal weight, but not ideal sexyness! I knew I had to do something the day I bent forward in my chair and felt my belly squeeze. It feels so unnatural to twigs like me that I can't have any of it. Even though I hate what my good ol' gym has turned into, I went back for 3-4 workouts per week anyways. That was early February. Nowadays I catch glimpses of myself in the thousands of mirrors (yes thousands I shit you not) at the gym and I can tell I look like a guy with some weight to him. Normal, some people would call it. I can now almost benchpress my maximum I set last summer, and feeling good. It sucks that I have to get rid of a lot of my Small sized clothes, those things cling to me like leotards now, but there's way more Medium sized selections so I'm happy. I guess the point of this update is to inform you guys that at some point, we all fill out. I happened to do so much later than normal. This has brought changes to my routine, such as extra cardio exercises to get my heart used to pumping more of me and abdominal workouts to turn my beer keg back into a six-pack. Its more work but it has some positives, such as not floating in medium sized shirts and being harder to push over when standing. My last point is the one that brought me back to this thread, which is that after ~1.5 years of working out at my current gym I am quitting. As of mid March I will be working out at my universities gym  . Oh, and I can't take anymore progress pictures with that tiny white shirt because I ripped it off at a party yelling "ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!?". It was worth it. jimmy_jim
--shirtless picture removed due to it making things awkward--wat, I never saw this :( So, how long did you take off and how did you find it when you started up again? fastortoise
I took 4-5 months off. The hardest part of coming back was the mental force it took to actually go to the gym - my body was fine picking up my routine again EXCEPT for my abdominals. Sometimes I'd wake up in pain I'd worked them too much  I'm hovering around 160 lbs right now. I'm still going up, but at a lesser pace. Needless to say my old goal of benching double my weight has changed  My last max was ~180 lbs, I don't intend on going higher than 200 so that's my goal. Right now I do 155 for exercises, can max probably 170-175.
jimmy_jim
We do the same for exercises, I can't max 175 though without a spotter. My goal for the end of the year is 220 lbs (100kg), hopefully. Curious to see an updated picture with the extra weight, do you feel better? Do you still have visible abs/chest muscles? In the last 2-3 months I've stopped tracking my diet as much as I used to (spent 6 months last year tracking my daily meals), I've put on about 5 kgs (11 lbs) but I'm kinda scared my definition will disappear heh RIP Michaelangelopolousu can control my tip it account, but youll never control how fine i am!This is by FAR my favorite song: I love N_odie and would never edit his posts! muggiwhplar
Are you still trying to bench 2x your bodyweight? I only weigh 123 lbs. these days but i can still rep 165 lbs. 5 times. Gonna try creatine and see if it helps at all. Are you taking any supplements?
fastortoise
I took protein shakes when I first began but I don't think I really needed them. I gave up bench goals... in fact I set a limit of 200 that I don't want to go over. I can do 185, but I train with the default 135 and don't plan on increasing that. Thanks for posting!
