oropher
Hi there, Should mutes really be allowed to use Quick Chat? Why let them talk if they broke the rules? Thanks :) Are you even serious? I'm having a hard time to not just cuss at you... When a player is muted their ability to talk freely is taken away for a certain time. Because in the past those people used 3rd party programs to be able to conversate with other players(a small part of every MMO is apparent player interaction, but I guess you didn't know that yet.), Jagex decided to make a quickchat option so these muted players wouldn't be totally unable to communicate and interact with other players. Anyway, this seems to just be an antisocial and troll thread. Do you just want a high postcount or something? Some advice: It's the quality of your posts, not the quantity. Laikrob
Oropher: How is this a troll thread? This was debated a lot when the option came out, as many thought muted people should not be able to use Quick Chat. (Also, the OP has been registered for over two years with less than 20 posts, what are you on about with quality > quantity? :???: ) Your reply borderline breaking the Debate club rules, tbh. On topic: Personally I think that it depends what they were muted for in the first place and how they use the Quick Chat. In most cases, QC prevents abuse, harrassment and breaking RS rules, which means that problem is solved. In a few cases, people abuse the QC aswell - using it to spam or make inappropriate combinations. As a clan chat mod in a fairly busy chat, I have seen this a few times. I wonder if Jagex ever removes the Quick Chat option from muted people? :-s You're accusing me of bigotry, how ironic. It's a nice attempt at argument, but your responses are facile and asinine, if not diatribe. Who's arrogant now?
Nurse_Renard
I wonder if Jagex ever removes the Quick Chat option from muted people? :-s I highly doubt it, as nobody would want to do anything ever with someone who cannot even inform them of how they're even feeling t'day. (Remeber when they had to communicate with emotes? Imagine attempting to do that at corp beast.) CLICK THE IMAGE TO GO TRY SHARK ATTACK DANGIT. Zaaps1
As far as I'm concerned, a person is muted for abusing the chat system. By using Quick Chat, Jagex ensures that these players cannot abuse the chat system (except by spamming). Therefore, Quick Chat allows abusive players to be "quarantined" from more honest players. I think what the OP is getting at, though, is that players who abuse the chat system should be PUNISHED, and allowing them to use Quick Chat does not accomplish this goal. Agree totally with this. If you've taken the ban it should apply to both chat and QC. Crime's a crime so take the punishment and move on.
Giordano
And what about the accidental mutings? Or the minor offense mutings? I got banned once for three days for saying "[bleep] this" or something similar in a castle wars game. Instead of a ban, make it a mute. Am I really that "bad" to not at least have a way to get by RuneScape without chat? "The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is." K4ylan
I used to deal with it just fine, using emotes and such. Isn't that what emotes were for anyways? Anyway, I have gotten unmuted since Quick Chat came out, so I don't really know how it would feel, being restricted to QC. ~~~The Harpy List~~~Harpy Facts~~~It's Super Effective~~~The Beginning~~~Harpy Therapy Center~~~Alg~~~Jedi Harpy~~~Rohirrim~~~Attenuation~~~

Youmu
Yes, they should still be able to use Quick Chat. Find a rule-breaking phrase in Quick Chat and I'll change my answer. Shazarabbit
I am borderline. If you are muted, there is really not alot in the options that you can use to converse with other players anyways so it seems useless. I mean how many times do we need to hear your woodcutting level? So you might as well remove quick chat options, especially with things like the GE and everything making it easier to purchase goods and sell. I don't however think they should be quarantined simply because they are muted. Yes they've committed a 'crime'. But come on, that's just taking it to extremes. /start sarcasm. Might as well start quarantining those who steal your "trees." Generally, they are trying to be vulgar and disruptive with QC combinations like this.Sure, it's vulgar, but I honestly don't see how it's offensive. Also, having a perverted mind does NOT equate to offensiveness. That's actually perfectly normal for people my age. Youmu
Didn't Jagex make QC mostly for muted people...?Nah. It's actually for players under 13 years old. Though most people would bypass the age requirement so it's pretty much useless. So I guess now it's only for muted people and QC worlds. I totally agree, I got muted for 25 days for saying something along the lines of: 'how does a str pure give such a big advantage in PvP' Right now i am on the top of the mute column and my next offence will result in a permanent mute. Without Quickchat, i will quit Runescape if i get muted. Quickchat is a blessing to victims of the Report system.

Yea, it is normal(well not exactly "normal, but everyone has one anyway) for kids my age(I'm also assuming you're somewhere from 11-17) to have perverted minds, but that is against the rules. Keep it at home, school, wherever; but it is supposed to stay off Runescape. Most adults and mature people do not appreciate it. And what about the accidental mutings? Or the minor offense mutings? mister_moocky
People [supposedly] get muted for saying things they shouldn't. The ability to freely communicate is a privlege and if someone abuses it it is taken away. Previous to Quickchat, however, a mute made playing Runescape massivly difficult. The inability to communicate drring trades and while doing any group activity made many mutes make a new account, or quit. Quickchat gives someone the ability to communicate enough to continue using all of the aspects or Runescape without the ability to talk freely. How anyone could have a problem with this I don't know. Although if my current main was perm muted I would stop playing because chatting is a big part of Runescape to me. quit
