How crafting *could* carry on

Ok, this is basically for all those sorta useless items, silk/wool/fur.

1) The frozen effect.

A new addon in an icy area. Its too cold to go in with just armour on! Why not get some nice wool clothes? or fur clothes?

It is the same as desert affect except reversed, need warm clothes and hot drinks (tea or hot water)

If you wear any of these into the desert the desert effect is doubled!

Use a needle and thread on wool.

5 wool = body

5 wool = legs

3 wool = hoodie

Wool protects from lvl 1 frozen effect, there are 2 lvls.

30 crafting to make.

You can add dye to these to personalise them

Use a needle and thread on fur.

7 wool = body

7 wool = legs

4 wool = hoodie.

Fur protects from lvl 1 & 2 frozen effect.

(Note: Fur needs more because it is stealable)

45 crafting to make

Both of these are buyable at the start of desert effect buy cost:

5k for wool

10k for fur.

2)Higher lvl desert robes!

These robes are generally the same but work twice as well.

7 silk = body

7 silk = legs

4 silk = head piece

You can add in ice coolers (from slayer masters) to the body pieces to increase their effectiveness again.

55 crafting to make.

Personalisable via dyes.

Comments? :P

i like this. especially if the fur clothes looked like eskimo gear. wear it in the desert should cause you to drink water at a faster rate lol. and the silk crafting would be nice too.

i would add a suggestion to your wool idea though. instead of just using the raw wool to make the clothes, you should be able to make knitted wool cloth (with a knitting needle in your inventory), and then you could make clothes (sweaters, tights, mittens, hats, booties (?) lol ). and when you finish your woolen work, you could dye your clothes to any of the six dye colors just like capes. and the clothes could be dyed again if you wanted. then you could mix and match colors. that would be really cool

I don't think this would be a very good idea at all. If you could no longer use good armor in cold areas, everything in these areas would essentially become useless. These areas have been made to be balanced between gain and cost. Adding detrimental effects to the environment of existing areas would be very unpopular among players as well. In the event that Jagex wished to add an entirely new area, perhaps atop a mountain, with this cold effect that was balanced keeping it in mind that wouldn't be much of a problem.

I like the idea, but Zaenith makes an excellent point. Unless you were wearing these new garments "under" your armor, like thermal underwear, ha, it sounds like it would be a problem. Maybe these items could be used to make fabrics to "insulate" your armor, so that crafting is still involved?

I don't see the need, actually. Under plate armour, you're wearing your underwear, clothes, leather padding and chainmail. That gets pretty damn hot pretty damn fast even in cold climates, and stays that way as long as you keep moving. As soon as you stop, the condensation starts to freeze and then you'll have problems. Warm clothing won't do anything to help that. You'll still sweat, and you won't effectively account for heat loss unless you're using modern-day synthetic materials or obscene amounts of animal hide.

If anything, penalties should only apply in the desert. There's a reason why desert tribes never wore plate armour beyond the fact that they have little access to metals. That stuff will bake you in the sun.

nobody said you could no longer use good armor. just like in the desert, nobody is forcing you to wear desert robes. and there are already monsters and areas that are detrimental to your stats without the designated equipment.

if you're fighting in a cold area, you are up against both the hazard of the monster, and the risk of freezing. of course you could wear your best armor for monster protection, but the cold would affect you. and of course if you wear your warm gear, you have less protection against the monsters. in either event you have a challenge, and you would have to make a compromise. alternatively, a nice cup of tea, stew, or some other hot liquid meal could offer some cold resistance if youre not wearing fur or wool.

its like slayer monsters. wearing earmuffs against a banshee gives you no added protection like a metal helm would, but you protect yourself from the banshee's deafening and weakening effects. its a tradeoff, but it makes the monster more challenging

I see your point, I didnt mean to say it was a training area, more like say a quest area or another area for treasure trails... Maybe even a cave in the center to hold a monster boss thingy majigger.

If it were a training spot then; yes it would be pointless.

I like this :) I don't raise my crafting ever because everything that can be made is in such huge supply and is really cheap... little things taht I'm not high enough to make that would be inconvenient to try to buy would encourage me to raise my level...

i like this idea it just needs like you can wear your armour over the wool and stuff it would even add a little more protection but not much, then it would be sweet and you can take it off when ever you want :D

You have the right, and people have the right to hate you for it.

Thus, the circle of life is complete.
