Just wondering what's the best set up to deal with a task of about 160 of these blighters and whether or not during this task I might get a hexcrest (on average it seems people get 2 a task).

I used my regular slayer gear. Slayer Helm, Torags Body/Legs, Whip, Rune Defender, D boots, and Warrior Ring. You can swap out the slayer helm for the Enchanted Water Tiara if you have to not worry about waterskins. And during my task, I had 92 of them and got one focus sight.

I did a task with veracs skirt, prossy top and the rest normal gear. Piety'ed the whole task which took about 5 prayer potions as they have such low defense. If you can get 2/3 spawns there a nice task for both drops and exp.

IMO don't bother with waterskins just take bunyip and some cheap food(I used trout and banked all the drops 3 times in 108 task, which was about 1m if they sell). There max is 10 (30 with the spec which is just a case of walking/running to avoid) and they miss a lot. In fact I took more damage from the desert then any of the strykewyrms, but bunyip kept me healed, plus they drop waterskins a far bit however the delay in drinking can make you freeze which sucks for the special attack.

 

As for the drop rate I didn't get a focus/hex in a 108 task.

yeah hexcrest focus sight and staff of light are all fairly common (in terms of rares) drops from their monsters. Thought the staff is notable rarer than the first two.

 

Probably because you HAVE to be on task to kill these things so if they don't drop fairly regulalrly its jsut gonna make all 3 unbuyable

 

And yeah waterskins are probably a waste, especially if u have high-ish defence to can withstand their attacks easily and can therefore sacrifice helment spot to enchanted water tiara if you really must.

If you range them you can avoid their burrowing attack all together, just stand next to a cactus or a bush and they'll just range you. Make sure to have a decent range def. You can also try the same thing for melee but you have to pay attention to where you investigate them at.

 

Also the desert ones drop the Focus Sight and the jungle ones drop the Hexcrest.

Hmm alright, I've been doing "dummy runs" of these whilst taking breaks from doing an essay; they seem easy enough, however Joe, your method with the yip covering desert damage doesn't seem to work for me. I'm not yet going to start pietying them so therefore I'm wearing Torags and whenever I'm dying of thirst I get hit 8-12's for some reason, so I guess it's better that I have 4 waterskins in my invo...... I have 70 left..... Lets hope I get a focus sight.

Good luck I hope you get it because I had 2 tasks of them and got none in both. It was very frustrating, anyway like it was said before watch out for the special attack when you have to take a drink.
