wingwinder
hello fellow tipiters (that how you spell that?) i am planning on upgrading to window 7 64-bit but i'd like to not have to erase all my data, because i have 34-bit so i need to do a clean install, so i'm looking for a new hard drive. And i figured that, while i'm at it i might as well get some new memory (AKA RAM) while i'm at it because mines a bit slow on the transaction. I haven't ever gotten a new hard drive or memory before, so i thought i'd ask you guys incase you know any real good deals on good quality memory or hard drive for less money. Perferred if the hard drive has 200+ GB on it, considering what i have now is 250 GB and i fill it about half way. Also, i was wondering if i have enough power for all of this, besides my hard drive and memory i have a NVidia EN9800GT 512MB, although i don't know how many Watts my power supply is so i can't tell you, but if you know how to find out i will get that to you. DUELMASTER30
I'd just get an external hard drive, they're very simple to use and require no installation usually. We got a 1TB external hard drive today and we've used it on all 3 of our computers so far with no issues. We got a SimpleDrive one for $100 for 1TB so it seemed like a pretty good deal, it also has a fast transfer rate. I think it said free online back up too but we haven't gotten to that yet. Quorra
i have 34-bit32* I've heard 1TB can be a bit unstable, personally I'd go for two 500GBs 500 Watt PSU should be fine.
indy500fan
There will be no problem getting a hard drive that small, it will probably be pretty cheap also. I picked up a 320gig for $50. You can double that price and hit 1TB easily.

I've used a 1TB for a while (normal hard drive and then as an external now) and it's perfectly fine.

AndyPandy
okay, but what brand hard drive should i get? Also any one with a good recommendation for RAM? http://www.crucial.com/ So don't let anyone tell you you're not worth the earth, These streets are your streets, this turf is your turf, Don't let anyone tell you that you've got to give in, Cos you can make a difference, you can change everything, Just let your dreams be your pilot, your imagination your fuel, Tear up the book and write your own damn rules, Use all that heart, hope and soul that you've got, And the love and the rage that you feel in your gut, And realise that the other world that you're always looking for, Lies right here in front of us, just outside this door, And it's up to you to go out there and paint the canvas, After all, you were put on the earth to do this, So shine your light so bright that all can see, Take pride in being whoever the [bleep] you want to be. I have always used Samsung and Corsair respectively. I've had no problems with either of those brands. Steam | Soup | Last.fm
indy500fan
crucial.com Man I used to only use that site a long time ago but I couldn't remember the name of it for the life of me when I was looking for RAM a few weeks back. Although checking it out now I still would have just ordered from newegg since newegg is cheaper.

indy500fan
For hard drives, Western Digital is the best brand. Brands are pretty much the same. Every brand has good models and bad models. Don't pick a hard drive just from the brand, look at reviews to see how well that model is doing.
Mirror
External is the way to go for Hard Drive, I prefer Western Digital. I can't say anything about memory. Best of luck!
