Heyyy,

I quit a while ago and it's almost summer, thinking about coming back. Right now i'm F2P with 300 odd mill in the bank and am lookng in an item i can invest in which i can sell by summers beggining to come back to RS with maybe 100m profit made. It sounds like alot but summer is 4 months away so i would only need a 30% increase in my cash over 4 months, however there is the problem that i am F2P. Right now i was thinking about F2P god armour as they have around 30% increase over the last 180 days so they look good.

Any other suggestions would be cool :)

jagex mentioned a smithing update, maybe coal/ores/bars might be good

They did not however say when or what it would be.

People have done this befor eother skill upgrades and lsot out because jagex introduced entirely new things rather than reusing old ones

Yeah, especially the poor guys who bought loads of dragon bones before the prayer update or loads of herbs before the herblore update. Wait, they made tons of profit. Never mind.

Being f2p, you don't have much to choose from. If you don't want to go for rares, I would go with ores and bars.

Didn't say it was impossible, just meant its not a guaranteed profit.

Smithing I'd say is least likely to be worth doing it with.

The fact its pretty full 1 thru 99 with all the base metals and QAs that said they might release a new metal would all point towards a smithing update introducing entirely new things possibly utterly unrelated to existing ores

Even if there is a new metal introduced, people are going to want to train smithing as fast as possible to be able to use the new metal! So maybe holding onto Coal or Gold Ore wouldn't be such a bad idea...

Well before i quit i was going for 99 farming and smithing, seeing as i will contiinue those goals when i come back i might aswell invest in a load of adamantite bars i guess... however if there is a new metal bar introduced, i doubt it will require levels higher than adamantite so... :S not too sure whether to put 100m on addy bars lol.

I too expect the smithing update to be parallel to the metals already in game. I think there was a comment in the Q&A about high level miners rioting if the requirements for rune were dropped to make way for new metals. I am sure level 99 smiths would form a similar lynch mob.

There are precedents set by the new climbing ivy for wood cut and living rock caverns. I expect smithing to get a similar treatment. Hopefully I'll be in the final levels by then so am really looking forward to seeing what they come up with.

However, back on topic, I don't think you can ever go wrong with gold and coal. However I would split my investment across both materials and rares.

Interesting input ayisha, i just relised had i invested in easter eggs before i quit, by now i would have had over MAX cash  , i see that merchanting clans are still eager as ever, was hopeing they'd be gone by now as it really affects my solo merchanting :(

A true merchanter finds his own merch items and will not acknowledge other people unless he's dumping them at the time of posting ;-)

So it's not likely you're going to get the real merching items posted here.

@010jonathan i'm not asking for a merch item tbh, merchanting is usually dealt with daily or upto weekly, i'm asking for a LONG term investment item ;) and from the comments in this topic i've gained a lot of help and intend to hopefully come back to RS with excess of 400m
