Crimsoncow42
I'm thinking about getting 99 smithing by spending 60 mil on Gold Ore with Goldsmith Gauntlets. Anyone know the xp/hour for this method? Are there any other comparable methods? Blast Furnace? Adamant Platebodies? Xp/hour rates on those? Thanks for your help. spooferfish
I'm no where near 100% sure, but I thought gold was slow, and addy plates are good xp... Not sure though. Moving this to help and advice as well...
tripsis
Addy plates are in fact good xp. Last I checked they were the best for a reasonable cost. That's how I got to 99: addy bolts until I could do plates and then plates to 99. That being said, I don't remember what my xp rates were like.. maybe 300k-400k xp an hour with SC Hammers? Tbh I could be way off though. And I have no idea what xp is like for gold, sorry D: - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
Crimsoncow42
How much did it cost you for addy plates? Did you alch them?
Rhonda
I did gold bars with gauntlets and figure between 60k-70k exp per hour. IIRC it took 3-4 minutes to smelt 28 ores at Edgeville. Time may be faster if you wear Varrock armor and not reading a book while smelting.
tripsis
How much did it cost you for addy plates? Did you alch them?I started I the 70's, maybe 75, and used SC Hammers so it cost me about 50m gp.. maybe even a bit less (like 45m). I sold the plates on the GE. But this was a year ago so I don't know how prices have changed since then. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
Crimsoncow42
Ok, I did the calculations and, if I did it right, smithing addy bars with sc hammers would cost about 300mil with 200mil return after platebodies are sold. So 100mil ball park. I'd still need to get to the smithing level needed for platebodies. I might try Blast Furnace. Any thoughts on that?

I don't have data on blast furnace, never struck me as something that would be particularly efficient, unless you're dirt poor.
Vulxai
I did Blast Furnace maybe a year ago, and if you're bored from smithing, you might want to do that just to break it up a bit. ~ Proud Father ~ Proud (Currently Deployed) Army National Guardsmen ~ Proud Lakota ~ Retired Tip.It Crew ~
Bladewing
99 smithing bandwagon! Gogogo! Adamant Platebodies are about 225k xp an hour without SC hammers and about 265k xp an hour with SC hammers (including time to gather the hammers). At the cost of 8.1 gp/xp with SC. Superheating Gold while smelting gold yields about 115k xp an hour once you get good at it, at the cost of 5.7 gp/xp. Platebodies: 265k xp/hour, 2,146k gp/hourSuperheating while smelting: 115k xp/hour, 654k gp/hour One hour of platebody smithing saves you 1.3 hours of gold smithing at the cost of 635k. If you can make over 500k gp/hour, you should do platebodies. How to Chin Nechyraels for fast XP and profit
