Yea, so my subscription to Norton is about to run out in about 2 weeks, and i've been thinking what to get in it's place.

My choices:

BitDefender

G Data

ESET

McAfee

 

any ideas on which i should get?

Microsfot Secuirty Essentials does the job fine if u don;t go to hacking sites and have genuine windows

If you're downset on paying, then ESET is the way to go. However, Avira, even the free version, consistently scores higher overall on benchmarking tests than any of the choices you mentioned.

So you'd recommend Avira Paid version over ESET paid?

The difference between Avira Free and Avira Premium is so marginal that I couldn't suggest paying for it, but yes, Avira would be my choice. It also happens to be half the cost compared to NOD32, which is nice.

Also, having used NOD32 for almost a year, it's not as good as people say it is, it just sits there not doing anything unless you scan for viruses.

Sorry to jack your thread, but what's so bad about McAfee? I have that, and my dad (who's job is essentially to prevent viruses at his workplace (hospital)) ensures that it's great :unsure:

In my experience with McAfee I found that it hogs resources, often misses viruses, and puts up annoying pop up messages whenever you change settings, download something, remove something, use a program that connects to the internet, and pretty much anything and everything else. Except for when it gets rid of files that aren't actually viruses. It doesn't tell you about that.
