tortilliachp
There's less than 1 hour left till today's Q&A. There are always rants about how the questions asked and answered in each Q&A are useless, and reveal little about what's really going on at Jagex HQ. Here at tip.it, we can make that change. We just have to think a little, and grab the bull by the horns: 1. Intelligent players such as those found here at tip.it need to ask questions.2. Questions need to be prepared beforehand.3. Questions NEED to be asked early on in the session, preferably right at the start, as the first questions have a much higher probability of being answered.4. Questions NEED to be asked in the right format.5. Questions NEED to be asked in such a way that they require intelligent responses. explanations:1: you are responsible for asking questions if you want something from the Q&A's. Smart people with insight in how the game works are the only people capable of asking smart questions.2. Questions need to be prepared as they need to be posted quickly, and we all need to sit down and think before we know what aims we have for a Q&A, do we want to learn more about the new skill? do we want to know about long-term strategy? Do we want to give ideas for new and exciting options? What do we want to know?3. The first questions get looked at first. it simply makes cynical sense.4. The right format for asking a question is: -ask 1, max 2 questions. That's the only way you're going to get longer, more detailed answers. -make the question (s) short, and to the point. Convoluted language allows mods to slip away with convoluted, non-essensial answers. -If you have many questions, make seperate posts for each one. 5. This is where it gets important. let me illustrate by use of examples. Ask questions in smart ways: -What sounds have you been working on for the new skill? reply: sorry we cannot tell you that! rephrase the question: What can you tell us about the Audio team's work with the new skill? reply: *This is not known yet, therefore it m ust be asked to find out* - Avoid asking yes/no questions by asking for an extent: Was the new audio player a success? reply: YES! rephrase: To what extent was the new audio player a success? Reply: *thinking pause*or second option: "What improvements will we see to the new audio player in the near future?" -Questions asking why or what reasoning lies behind certain decisions require responses that give light to the reasoning, the thinking in Cambridge: Why does *insert area of sound related issue* need an update? Reply: *thinks before answering* -Negatives turn things around, and move Jagex out of their normal mode of operation: Why shouldnt ingame music resemble popular music more?? Other important clauses that require little explanation are terms such as what purpose does *insert question* serve in the grand scheme of Gielinor? Can you post 75 words on (forcing a longer more detailed response) now let the question discussion begin, and please ask questions today! We all want intelligent replies, so we have to ask intelligent questions

tortilliachp
Who really cares about the Audio team? I know they work hard and I appreciate them, but I don't think many people care about it. the audio team is involved in every piece of content that goes live. You can fish for information on every single topic within the game. How can that be something people don't care about?

Yeah, their involved, but it's like trying to get information on a new car by asking the guy responsible for making the door handles. Do you have any examples of previous intelligent questions they've either a) skipped answering or B ) answered "we cannot tell you that" or something to that extent? about not listening to sounds / audio: if Jagex can do anything about that, ask about it. They've given us an opportunity to ask what we want. That's a perfect opportunity to tell them about what's not working. They don't want praise, they want to improve. mega_vegeta6
Who really cares about the Audio team? I know they work hard and I appreciate them, but I don't think many people care about it. I always leave sound and music off.I dont even have any music.. Can't try the playlist thing out. But i wouldn't know what songs to pick, since the last song i heard was.. two years ago. It'd be nice to ask about what creative ways they've come up with music and sounds. Like how the lightsabers in starwars is a broken fan.

Sorry Jagex, but until your audio is good enough to make me turn off my Beach Boys, Johnny Cash, Billy Joel, etc you'll never see me worrying about the music and sound effects. meb
Q: When will Jagex stup putting resources in something trivial like audio when most RS players just listen to their own music? Retired 2146 overall - 136 combat - 6 skillcapes Plus I think the whole teenage girl thing will end soon (hopefully), because my girlfriend is absolutely in love with him(she is 18), and im beginning to feel threatened by his [Justin Bieber] dashing looks. tortilliachp
Q: When will Jagex stup putting resources in something trivial like audio when most RS players just listen to their own music? exactly. I asked and got my answer: Arguably, an important reason why people do not listen to the in-game music is that it does not resemble the music they usually listen to. How can the Runescape music cater to the common music tastes (rock, pop, hiphop, etc.)? Are there limitations that make a hot guitar solo or “fat beat” un-implementable in Runescape? @TortilliachpHey!I think that’s a fair point, however RS music does have a certain style and charm about it that a lot of other players really like. It’s a bit of a double edged sword really, as if we started to include a lot of say, hip hop, then there’d be a lot of players who would stop listening to the music due to their dislike of hip hop. We think that the classic orchestral sound, used in cinema for years to good effect, has the diversity needed for the range of styles and emotions we need to portray: be it epic battle music, or a simple violin solo. That’s the creative perspective. From a technological point of view, we have to use midi files to keep sizes down, so sadly we couldn’t include that awesome guitar riff, even if we wanted to. Good question! basically: 1. their sound system can't make high enough quality music that many will listen to it. 2. They won't use common styles becase "some people dislike those" therefore they choose to continue in a malfunctioning, bad type of film-music orchestration. Basically, they admit there is no hope for runescape music in the near future.3. They won't implement more experimental beats, solos, or other musical features this generation really appreciates. Hopefully they'll be more successful with sound effects, more people listen to those, they actually serve a slight purpose in the game after all. Anyway, as many have said, I don't really see how insightful an Audio Team Q&A would be. I also play with the sound off, the music simply isn't good enough imo...
