Learning Guitar - Any good books?

Since I'm saving up for a guitar now, I figure I might as well add some good books into the price...

Does anyone have any good books to recommend? I remember having smoe great books that helped me teach myself piano when I was 8 or so, but I can't recall the brand. Also, finding a teacher really isn't an option, because I would have to go 40 minutes into town and there really isn't anyone around to teach me.

Read tabs, they taught me. I'm a fairly good guitarist, and I've only read tabs and only have been playing for a year. Crazy Train was easy :P

But if you want to learn notes, progressions, and that sorta thing, you would probably want to buy a decent book. Powertabs have tabulature and the note thingys, though.

My freind is teaching himself with a computer program, it shows you what to do and plays it and stuff, really cool. But i cant think of the name right now, ill look it up and tell you when i find out.

Reading tabs is great and all, but I suggest taking a few lessons as well. Since there are a few pretty vital/useful things you kinda need to know to become a good guitarist (knowing which fingers to use when, using all fingers etc. etc.), and you learn all of that from taking lessons from a proper electric guitar teacher.

I take electric guitar lessons atm(applied for a 10-hour one); and I'll have you know, I was very against taking lessons when I just started - but really, I've learned so much from them. Oh, and it takes me 40 minutes to get there by bus. :P

I think Azvi is right that you need a guitar teacher, but not for the reasons he listed. You can figure out which fingers to use where in most cases, and you can become a good player without a teacher, definately.

The reason i got a teacher was to help me learn theory. I can't stress enough how much having at least some knowledge of theory will help your playing. Trying to learn it by yourself can be pretty hard, a teacher will help infinitly.

Dreaming of that face again

It's bright, and blue, and shimmering

Grinning wide

And comforting me with it's three warm and wild eyes
