  1. Really digging the new album, especially Slomo. Glories (post-rock) released a new EP earlier this year. The build-up in this song in particular is great. Unreqvited, a one-man atmospheric/post-black metal project from Canada, released a 5-track split album with Violet Cold, A Light In The Dark, Show Me A Dinosaur and Sadness. Violet Cold, another one-man atmospheric/post-black metal project, from Azerbaijan, released a new EP this year (not from aforementioned split album). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0nErR-nb3Q Chelsea Wolfe released a new single. Wy, also.

    10 years

I joined Scapeboard back in 2002 (13th September I believe). Started playing RuneScape in 2000 or 2001, played for roughly 3-4 years. Not sure why I still come here, but I tend to log-on maybe once every few months - suppose it's primarily to see if this place still exists.
  3. Augmentation/ripped-skin tattoos to me are the tattoo equivalent of Affliction shirts. The Mandalorian sugar skull idea sounds sweet though. Do it, post pics.
  4. What are you talking about. Those are usually the best tattoos. The best? That gross generalization. However, long term I feel the can be the ones with the least regret afterwards (if one has the propensity to regret such things). Not really. The best tattoos I have seen tend to be the ones with absolutely zero personal meaning behind them, other than "hello tattoo artist, do something cool on my body", or "hey this motif looks dope, go wild with it".
  5. What are you talking about. Those are usually the best tattoos.
  6. I bought 24 bloody games, 80% of which I probably won't ever play. God damnit, Valve.
  7. I've never met a tattoo artists that does free sketch-ups for strangers. There's a reason the consult meet comes with a 50eur fee, it's to ensure the artist gets at least something out of it should the costumer decide not to get the tattoo. (You'll get the 50eur back once the tattoo is done.) So yeah, it should at least cost you 50eur. Might be less. or more, depending on the artist. But 50eur is standard.
  8. Never really followed Giant Bomb that closely (mostly because of the website's confusing UX) but I was nonetheless really, really bummed when I heard the news of his passing. I've always enjoyed their Quick Looks and that was mostly due to Ryan's hilarious and intelligent commentary and infectious laugh. Every person I've heard who's ever met him immediately really liked the guy, dude just exuded tons of energy and compassion. He died on his honeymoon. Christ. I listened to their most recent bombcast where the other members of the GB crew shared their memories of Ryan. The last 4 minutes are absolutely heartbreaking. He's shaking babies in heaven now.
  9. Did Ondrash make that? Looks a lot like his style. Examples: Obviously ages very poorly but nonetheless a very cool and creative tattoo style.
  10. Vertigo, your piece is getting progressively sicker. Can't wait to see it finished. Also, post bumtats.
  11. Isn't this fandom just as insufferable as every other fandom? And don't pretty much everybody agree with this? I'm just wondering where the discussion value of this is other than people going "lol thems some weird people taking a cartoon way too seriously *plays minecraft 60 hours a week* *poops in sock*". That said, the series itself is probably quite important and it's good that it exists.
  12. Much like Vertigo this is sadly the most exciting action this thread has seen in half a year.
  13. Absolutely. My point wasn't that having a tattoo with a backstory is dumb, not at all - rather that it really doesn't matter in the end; a turd will always be a turd regardless of the circumstances behind its inception etc. And like Vertigo said, to someone who appreciates tattoos as an art form, their pieces will always have meaning and some sort of reasoning behind them, but that meaning and reasoning usually don't stretch much further than "I really like the motif" or "it's hilarious seriously look at the lil' piggy". And whether you like it or not those reasons are literally just as viable as a tattoo that pays homage to a loved one, or to a special moment in a person's life.
  14. I've never once gone "oh that horribly disfigured blob you had tattooed on yourself in your friend's kitchen for a fiver is now magically no longer a horribly disfigured blob because you just relayed to me the essay on the Meaning Behind It". A shitty tattoo is always a shitty tattoo. Not that you necessarily should tell someone their tattoo sucks, mind you.
  15. Who says a tattoo has to mean anything? Certainly no tattoo artist I've ever talked to. Why can't it just be appreciated on its own, like any other art form? Anyway, good job on dismissing an entire style of tattoing that is thousands of years old on the basis that "you've seen a few ripped dudes with tribals".
  16. Nice, that should at least leave you enough time between sessions to forget how much it sucks! I'll most likely stretch. Doubt I'll end up going much bigger than 11,1 or 12,7mm though (for those of you still stuck in the dark ages, that's 7/16"-1/2" respectively). But then I have friends who said the exact same thing and are now up to 19,1mms (3/4"). Yeah, tell me about it. I've at least decided to have my right arm follow a "consistent" theme and style, and done by the same artist. But my left arm will just end up a potpourri of different traditional, flash-type stuff done by different artists. And then I'll probably fill the really small spaces in between with standard dots and stars. Also really looking forward to see my friend's piece worked on. His artist has apparently had a finished sketch for 2 years now. He also plans on going over the chest since my friend has a pretty shitty tattoo done by a mutual "friend" at a party years ago. So he's gonna fix it up a bit and incorporate it into his piece. I think I've mentioned it before, but you should take a look at the Gypsy Gentleman. It's a free show featuring Marcus Kuhn. He travels around the states and meets different (usually very talented) artists, and the episodes end with them tattoing people following a specific theme. Marcus can be a bit obnoxious, but it's really quite good all in all. It's a breath of fresh air after all the terrible tattoo shows we usually get.
  17. I've said it before but it really is turning into an awesome piece. The shading is some of the best I've seen. I also love how the light from the ball reflects on other surfaces. Looks badass. When's your next session? On a different note, Stockholm Ink Bash starts in about ten days. My tattooist usually has a booth there so I'll try to find her and discuss ideas on how we can expand on my sleeve. Also planning on piercing my ears while I'm there, but that's another topic. Oh and my friend's gonna turn his shoulder piece into a half sleeve. [hide] [/hide] I'm all giddy!
  18. Chances are he wasn't doing this because he had some innate hatred for Batman. As terrible as it sounds, if his intention was to inflict maximum damage, one can see why he choose that particular place and time. What a horrible event. Exactly, it's the perfect "fish in a barrel" situation. The place is packed, it's dark, people's attention is focused on something else, there's no open space to run, only a few exits. Also, this seems pertinent whenever something like this happens: http://youtu.be/PezlFNTGWv4 Especially when I read on a Swedish news site yesterday "the gunman was dressed like a Batman villain" jesus christ.
  19. Well, a friend of mine just got into the Washington University Medical School. I heard it's like number 6 in the country, so I guess it's pretty good? That's all I've got.
  20. Swedish as it's my native language, and fluent enough in English. A few years of school-Spanish. I used to be able to string together sentences in Irish well enough to get by, but I've forgotten most of it now (although I somehow still remember the lyrics to Oro Se Do Bheatha 'Bhaile). I'm interested in learning French as soon as I finish uni.
  21. I've moved away from Tech a while ago, can't remember the last time I actually played one. But I feel it is probably the most beginner-friendly class in the game. At least in CTF games, because you generally get a good sense of how it all sort of works, the teamplay, protecting the flag, keeping the generator/turrets/sensor up, upgrading, paying attention to the voice chat etc. Plus if you are actually doing what you're supposed to do as a Tech by maintaining base defenses, you're also helping out a lot. And it is quite an easy job, but pretty damn fun and hectic when you play against a good team. Compare this to a soldier mindlessly dancing around in midfield, or a raider just messing around in the enemy's generator room the whole game, both of which are far too common btw. They should really be playing TDM instead, not CTF. Currently I'm mostly playing Pathfinder, focusing on flag capping and sometimes flag defence/chasing. There are few things quite as satisfying as doing a really clean flag cap at 370 km/h.

    Podcasts

GiantBomb's are great. I also enjoy 5by5's podcasts, especially the "Back To Work" stuff with Merlin Mann and Dan Benjamin. Also if you're interested in Apple stuff, 5by5's "Hypercritical" podcasts are usually pretty great. Obligatory listen: when Siracusa's giving his thoughts on the Steve Job's biography. It spans two episodes, so it's like four hours in total. The rage is glorious.
  23. So T:A was released like two months ago, kinda curious if anybody else is playing this at the moment? Obviously I never stopped.
  24. English isn't my native language, but do you mean growth as in, for example, exercising and getting "bulkier legs"? If so, that really won't be a problem. The skin has an amazing ability to adapt, so unless you plan on going on a steroid binge and increase your muscle mass by over 200% in a very, very short time, you've no reason to worry.
  25. Your tattooist is gonna give his/her input regarding placement and such regardless (unless said tattooist is a jerk), but personally I think side tattoos are better suited for bigger and "longer" pieces (whereas yours is obviously quite small and wide). A girl friend has a huge phoenix bird on her side, for example, and it's basically the ideal spot and placement for that motif and that size. So yeah, unless you add elements to the background to add some height to it, or alternatively flip the camera 90 degrees, it's probably gonna look a bit misplaced on your side. It's unlucky that the proportions of a camera don't really fit in all that well anywhere on the human body (unless you play around with the perspective and angle etc). Tattoos are generally longer than they are wide, because that's how most peoples' bodies look. Flipping the camera 90 degrees would definitely work though, but since it's a quite small piece, I'd personally put it somewhere smaller like my arm, shoulder or leg. But like I said, as long as you're open, your tattooist will be able to make it work regardless.
