Unicorn vs. Bunyip

So, double exp weekend has gotten me to my long-time goal of 88 summoning, and I was just wondering if there were any situations where a bunyip is still better than a uni. I don't boss hunt, really the only combat I do is slaying with a bit of pure grinding like at AZs, but I was just wondering if the unicorn flat out replaces the yip, or if there are situations where the unicorn's expense outweighs its benefits. Waterfiends. They drop lots of raw fish that you can eat using the bunyip's special scroll. A unicorn there is just overkill.

For slayer and training, bunyip is good enough. Uni is overkill like above.

The only tasks I used to Uni are skelewyvern, gorak , and wadever hard hitting mobs that I dont prot melee.

If you use it at Desert Strykewyrms + SGS you can wear desert robes and nearly nulify the affect on desert heat.

I was also thinking that it's perfect for jungle strykewyrms because it would make the poison damage negligible. So what I'm hearing is just stick to the bunyip in most cases?

I would say the number one mistake players with 88+ summon make is that they forget bunyips exsist, and that unicorns are the only familar in exsistance.

 

You used bunyips before to replace food in many situations, and you still can. Healing aura scrolls add up fast, and take concentration to use, where as bunyips are just a regeneration effect. Also if food and/or prayer can take care of you and you're fighting in a multi combat zone, combat familiars beat them both. When I slay, I tend to use bunyips or combat familiars more than unicorns.

 

Don't get me wrong, unicorns are epic and awesome. They do an amazing job at what they're good for, but for many situations are just expensive overkill.

 

Basically:

Use bunyips if you're taking small amounts of damage over time.

Use Unicorns if you're taking bigger hits of damage, to extend your trips.

Use a combat familiar if you're barely taking any damage, and in a multi combat area.

 

Also for boss hunting, you typically want to bring a BoB full of supplies, then swap to unicorn part way through.

I prefer bunyips for casual slaying. They are a little less effective, but also absolutely 0 maintenance, and ultimately cheaper. They are more than adequate at all slayer tasks aside from perhaps dark beasts (where I pray and use tortoise, although that isn't necessary) and the wyrms. Their easy care makes them perfect for long, easyish tasks like abbie spectres and demons.
