Ok I ordered all new parts and spent all the time to put them together just to find out my rig won't start up.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Problem: I put all my hardware in and the system powers on for like a second. So I shut down and removed the processer and turned the system on without it, It powers everything on nice and clean. So I can't run the system with my processer in it..... Little bit of a problem.

AMD Duron Applebred 1.8ghz

 

 

 

Chaintech Summit MoBo w/ NVidia chip set

 

 

 

SimpleTech 512MB DDR ram

 

 

 

AIG 400watt PSU

 

 

 

Seagate Baracuda 80gig ATA (upgrading to Serial ATA soon)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I have some extra hardware really not related to the main parts (fans, lights)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

So can anyone help?

I'm hoping you did this, but I'm just making sure. Did you install your heatsink/fan on your processor? Modern processors overheat extremely fast without a heatsink/fan. A modern processor can be permanately ruined in about 5 seconds (haven't actually tested this :wink: ). I thought of the processor because you said taking it out fixed the problem. The problem really couldn't be caused by too many things, mainly incorrectly installed components or faulty components. Make sure everything is correctly installed also.

then if oyur still having problems remove ALL YOUR DRIVES LIGHTS and all but your cpu fan

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

try powering on then...

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

if it powers on.. your power supply need to be replaced and you need a more powerfull one

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

just don't do a patrick norton on your power supply (TWIT RULES)

Of "Chaintect Summit" mobo's, iirc.

Seems like a fair bet that the two don't match if the computer is failing to boot when the chip is in, but booting when it is out.

 

 

 

And I highly doubt that it is a dead chip.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

@username388: Without a heaksink it'd still boot and just BSOD or Autoshutdown (depending on the BIOS) when it overheated. A cold boot with no HS wouldn't shutdown straight away.

lol they were the same socket. Both socket A. Yes I had a heatsink/ fan combo on it. I tried to power up with only the mobo and proceser connected to the PSU (no luck). I sent back the proceser for a complete new one. Newegg is my retailer of choice.
