last week or so I've been solo maging rex, and have been making quite good money. However, in the last few trips I've been taking a lot of damage from the spins, and actually had to tab last trip due to too low of hp. I'm 91 mage, 99 def, 99 hp, and 90 summ. Heres my gear:

after killing supreme+prime to get in, I usually have 2-3 brews left, however I have been eating through these in no time. Any suggestions for improving my gear besides obvious things like fury/spectral/elysian?

or buy a karil's top and sacrifice 75 (dh)/16 (verac's) range def for 71 (dh)/65 (verac's) mage defense, 15 (dh)/-9 (verac's) mage attack, and 0 (dh)/5 (verac's) prayer bonus.

Really, you said all there is to be said. Personally when I Solo Mage rex, I go with full Guthans + Stole + Veracs Brassy. This basically allows me to have the same stats as maging with veracs + fury, with less cost. I would highly reccomend this! If you see more than 3 spinos up, simply pray magic. Remember ONLY heal with Guthans between Rex kills. Goodluck. The lair calls.

almost all of the damage you take from the Spins is from mage attacks, so your second picture is the opposite of what you want to do.

 

When I mage rex, I wear full guthans, guthix cape, infinity boots, fury, dfs. With that on, my unicorn almost always keeps up, even without using EE or SGS specs.

 

From your options, i would say switching to a Karil Top would be better, as it would reduce a lot of the mage damage you take.

Take some prayer potions and pray magic when spins start hammering you.

Too much damage from spinos, really? Just bring guthans + uni then.

Bring guthans or switch to a fruit bat, though I've used your exact setup except with a fury many times and didn't have problems with spins. Every great once in a while you take too much damage but its never anything mage prayer, brews and food drops can't handle.

Spinop's do significantly more damage now, after the constitution update. Remainders add up when there's 2-3 hitting you continuously, and remainders on hits that barely ever reach 5 damage constitute (:D) a large percentage increase in total damage.

 

Guthans would be your easiest option, which would let you stay as long as your prayer potions keep up. Second would be to take karils and sacrifice some prayer bonus.

Two main options. Either bring V helm, K top, and V skirt and tank them fine, or bring full verac, and pray mage 100%. If you do the later, it would probably be better to bring a tort, and bring some food+pray pots. (shouldn't need more then a few brews.) Fill tort with bones before you leave.

I think ill try with a K top and bring the dh plate for coming in so supreme+rex dont shred me.

Back when solo maging was first discovered as a good money making method, the two set ups were Veracs and Guthans. Obviously they have changed and adapted to new items, but the basic principal was this.

 

For Guthans you wouldn't pray unless you had a king on you, and you would heal off the spinos when you needed to.

For Veracs the idea was that you would be praying a fair bit to prevent taking much damage. So if your gonna keep using veracs go back to basics and just take a little more prayer each trip.
