For example the two first things we need are a magnetosphere and greenhouse gasses. To achieve a magnetosphere we must get iron into the core, that could be done by extracting oxygen from the ironoxide (rust) and sending the iron down. At that point Mars will become more protected from solar flares/eruptions and will have less problems with holding an atmosphere. Then water would be introduced, making the acidic surface release the CO2 it has captured while removing acid remains. Later factories can be created to produce SF6 from minerals known to be in the martian soil, this is the most potent greenhouse gas known to man... When the atmosphere is dense enough we will introduce lichen, then pine, then other plants and last a variety of wildlife.
