Treasure Trails discussion

I just started doing treasure trails again yesterday, and finished 2 level three clues. Both the rewards were less than 70k. Does anyone know the chances of getting more than 1m from a treasure trail? I also am wondering if anyone here on tip.it has gotten 3rd age?

In short, no.

 

The only thing that we have to base treasure trail reward rates on are the drop logs kept by individual players. Like logs for monster drops, there's still uncertainty as to what the actual percentage of each item is. Unlike monster drops though, clues take a much longer (and more variable) amount of time to obtain and do. I've yet to see a log for level 3s that's hundreds of clues long, or any other substantial number which is needed to get a semi-accurate number.

 

For now, I'd say that rewards are up to chance.

One hundred clues is not a large enough sample. I'm thinking more along the lines of hundreds of clues, perhaps thousands.

You'd need 20+ of any item you want to draw any statistical conclusions about.

didn't jagex say once that 3rd age was like a 1 - 10,000 chance? I remember hear that somewhere. But that's the only figure that comes to mind.

Only considering the common and semi-common stuff, I feel level 3s are pretty worthwhile. Pieces of rune and pages and such aren't worth all that much, but if you can get a 100k clue in 15 minutes, well 400k/hr (if you lumped all your clue time together) with bonuses is pretty good for most people, right? It's possible I'm being too generous about the average clue. If instead of talking about any particular item, you tried to estimate the probability of getting a 100k+ clue, or 200k+ clue, then it would be pretty easy to get the 5, 10, or 20 samples of each yes and no to be statistically significant. (Depending on which test you run, and whose rule of thumb you subscribe to, and whatever I forgot since last taking stats.) I wouldn't set the bar at 1m. I've personally only had 2 such clues in years, and you'd be hard pressed to find someone with such a sample, let alone having actually logged it.

I made some collages of the treasure trails that my brother and I have done. There were about 125 clues total and most were level 1 or 3. Sorry for the poor quality but I didn't have much time.

That's the worst quote ever.

 

Anyway, level 1s used to be pretty good, because it doesnt take much time to finish them, nor to get them (H.A.M.), I know I made about 15m off of them. Though it was when the new clue rewards were released..
