Most familiars give an invisible boost which won't help you light the log. Most familiars give an invisible boost which won't help you light the log. There's always the special skill boosting curry, but that takes a lot of luck and effort to gather spices. Yews aren't much faster, and you would lose a lot of money. It would cost less than 100k if you burn maples. Unfortunately, the familiar boost is invisible and therefore cannot be used to light a higher level log, it only increases your chance of lighting a log you can already do. As far as I am aware, the only boost for fm comes with spicy stews so you're going to have to try them if you really can't be bothered to get the levels (I couldn't). Its still better to use 2-3 tinderboxes and the rest logs.
