Should Jagex make a rule that forbids price manipulation aka "Merchant clans"?

Featured Replies

Is there really a way that you would be able to stop it? Why can't a bunch of people just want to buy the same item? We are all free to buy what we want.

The people aren't doing anything but using the market at the same time together. You cant really define "manipulation"

The act of artificially inflating or deflating the price of a security. In most cases, manipulation is illegal. It is much easier to manipulate the share price of smaller companies, such as penny stocks, because they are not as closely watched by analysts as the medium- and large-sized firms.

Dictionary.com seemed to be able to.

Correct; shifts in the market still need to freely occur. However, actual Merchant Clans take advantage of the sheer numbers they amount by manipulating the Grand Exchange rules; that is not acceptable. It's also a fairly distingishable characteristic.

It would be impossible to completely rid the Merchanting Clans, but we could prevent a fair amount of the "lay-man" members of their groups simply by making a rule against "Grand Exchange Manipulation" and banning the obvious Merchanting clan chats. The leaders move to fansites and other locations, but it would eliminate the primary source of advertisment and would drive many of the "lower" members away in fear of punishment. It would even be justifible now to ban the leaders for decieving people.

if i have money, I want to be able to spend it however i deem fit.

If it raises the prices to where you cant afford stuff, too bad, too sad for you.

Noone is stopping you from using your money on items or skills. If you HAVE money, why do you need more? and more importantly why play a game to make only more money? And why not do it in a way that don't affect others? I'm surprised of your comment.

I dont play every hour, my money may as well make me more money from when I can play :)

"Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up, and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. This is a most valuable - a most sacred right - a right, which we hope and believe, is to liberate the world."

I love making money too, but manipulating screws with a lot of people. The obvious argument here is that it ruins the fun for many people, even though it might be fun for the small portion doing it in the first place. Kind of like abusing bugs. A lot of people abuse bugs for their own fun, but it really only ever pisses off the majority who'd rather play the game for non bug-abusing reasons.

It's not against the rules, though, because it shouldn't be. I might get pissed off when I can't buy P Pots, but I'd be even more pissed if people were getting banned for playing the game the way they want to play it. Instead of mass banning, which is such an idiotic solution that it makes me question people's sanity, I propose a fix to the GE. If the GE is fixed, manipulating (which is also merely emergent gameplay) will mostly end. All Jagex needs to do is make the GE update multiple times a day. It works fine in Wall Street (Lol), so what could be the problem in Runescape. People might lose more money in a day, but it's no different than pre-GE economics.

Just to clarify something for people, advertising manipulation cc's isn't agaisnt the rules. The use of auto-talkers is. It has always been against the rules but Jagex didn't really enforce it. Because of the public pressure, Jagex recently said they would start enforcing it.

Except just about all of those advertisers use auto-talkers. Honestly, who wants to just endlessly type this crap all day long?

Nobody can have a partyhat because they want one anymore, because WAY too rich merchants have them all. <_<

I just bought a purple today. It's my second partyhat and I am not a merchant. So... yeah you can still get them.
