motherboard on wrong side of case?

hi

im transferring everything over from my old dell desktop into a new case. the new case has a window on the side. my old dell desktop opened on the right hand side, and the motherboard was fixed to the right hand side. however now my new case opens on the left hand side, with the motherboard fastening to the right hand side

i now can't put in my graphics card because the thing you plug it into on the motherboard is not in the right position.

is there anything i can do about this? i tried to switch around the clear side and the non-clear side (the case opens on the clear side), but there is a tray or something that the motherboard is fixed to. the new case is an Aywun A1-G01.

Thanks

Guy

Did you put the motherboard in upside down compared to how it is in the old case? Thats what you need to do if you havent already.

I'm confused.

If the old case opend right side with mobo fixed right side and the new case opens left side with it fixed right side. Wheres the issue?

They both fix the mobo on the same side?

I'm confused as well. How did you get at the components if opening the old case would lead you to the back of the motherboard tray blocking your way?

It's a Dell. I don't know why you thought this would be a good idea, you should of checked the Dell before buying the case. Dell's have weird cases, that often open the "wrong" way (the right side panel would open, if you're looking at the front of the case). I don't really know what you can do, try flipping the gfx card around or something? If that doesn't work you're pretty much screwed.

Wow, Dell must have some serious greed issues. If their motherboards don't use ATX, then you shouldn't buy from them. Inventing form factors like that is unacceptable.

Dells do use ATX, it just some of their cases that are weird.

Though I'm still completely lost on how you can have a case tht opens right side AND mounts right side.

And equally how it can be a problem to transfer from a right side mounting case to a right side mountain case.

If you're right, he would have no problem with graphics card. I don't know, I think we need a bit of a clarification about this old case.

Dells have some crazy [wagon] cases. I've never seen one that you couldn't stick a video card in though if you really wanted to. You might have to get one of those low rising video cards, more expensive and less powerful but you have to do what you have to do. A regular one should work fine though.

It would really help if you took a pic and we could see what you are talking about.

What I got from the original post was that the case opens on the right (if facing the front case) and the mobo is mounted on the left, with access to everything through the right side. If this is the case, that'd mean the graphics card has been specifically made to fit this Dell case, or it has been flipped over. Or, the graphics card has been fitted/made specifically for this case and won't work in any other case. Pictures would make this a lot easier.

How'd you get that?

He said the old case opened from the right and everything was fixed to the right.

And that the new case opens from the left and everything fixes to the right.

Unless he really did have some stupidly absurd case originally he's clearly made a typo but we can't just assume which bit is typoed.

Because I know Guy and know he's not the most techy person out there (no offense) and I have seen Dell cases. I'm not saying I'm right but I think that's his problem.

Dell case. Yeah.[/hide]

Really, I have no idea what to say if it's anything like that. You probably can't switch it over easily, if at all.

Lol, is that supposed to be "internal speakers" on the bottom with the hazard sign?

Good God. I see what you mean now. It opens on the right, but the motherboard's been flipped upside down and fixed the the left, which is the opposite of what normal (hint hint, Dell) cases do.

If you can unscrew and detach all of the crap that's in front of the motherboard, though, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to take out the motherboard, turn it 180 degrees on it's plane and then stick it in the normal case through the left hand side. You might need to buy a processor fan if the one in there refuses to detach from the black cover thing with the hazard sign, but that shouldn't be too much of an issue. The expansion cards look like they're aligned correctly anyway, so you shouldn't have a problem with that.

Dells have custom Mainboards specifically for Dell PCs. Basically, you can't use them very well in non-Dell cases, as the Graphics Cards never line up with the holes in the back of the case, and the screw holes are in a different place to standard ATX. I have no idea why they do this.

To conclude, you should probably get a new mainboard. Dell use an unbranded Korean mainboard of some sort (I'm too lazy to look for it in my pile of computer spares), which is alright, but not the best quality in the world. Go for an MSI or something similar.

450x200 is not a big enough space in which to fit anything more meaningful than a rubber duck wielding a stick.

I won't go for MSI, I would go for Asus or Gigabyte if I was to buy a motherboard. From my experience, MSI boards are hard to setup and won't last that long. Plus Asus now has their own OS on their board for when you need to check something fast, which is Asus Express Gate. Not a full OS, but just enough for chat and internet browsing.
