Whats your budget? Very important we know this

Also need to know EXACTLY what you are using it for, you dont mention any games but then you could be doiung some heavy video editing for example.

All this influences the spec of the laptop you will need.

I, personally, would take this one.

Your choice also depends on how much you have to spend and what youll use it for. If you have more money, you can get a better system, obviously. But for the second cheapest laptop on that site, its probably the best option if your not looking to spend alot, do intensive school work or gaming. But who would buy a laptop to play games anyway?

If any one disagrees or thinks i am wrong, correct me so he can make a better decision.

There are several key factors which go into deciding which note book would suit your needs the best. Because you are planning to take it to uni, I would suggest looking at the lighter, less bulky options, the more battery life the better. Go into the shop and play around with the models, if possible pick them up ect.....

If you are planning to use it only for word processing, excel web broswings ect... specs are not of that much importance, even the cheap notebooks would do that with ease.

If you are planning to play games.... then you would need to spend alot more, and in all honesty a laptop is not your best option. A budget desktop and budget laptop would be a better compromise...

If you want to take it into lectures and use it to write notes.... DON,T! All you would achive is to annoy everyone with clicking, and would spend time playing games and watching movies instead of paying attention. Notebooks and lectures are not compatible.

With regards to the brands, they are all of reasonable quality. Although I personally prefer ASUS and Ascer, in fact I wrote this on a cheap Asus notenook.

If I had to choose a notebooks looking at the specs provided, I would choose the ASUS A45D or the ACER TM 254.

But before you buy go down to the shop, and play around with them, check out build quality, battery life ect

I always suggest Dell Inspiron 700m to college students-- it's light, compact, and runs fairly well. 1.8ghz, 64mb video card, 512ram, and it has a nice screen.

If you insist on getting it from that site, I'd get the one mentioned above in Stuart's post. :)

Budget is $2,000, will be using it to design websites, programming languages.. and since family computer is in a separate room, I can't be bothered to use it, since its all cluttered up with junk, and a pirated XP cd.

I want to be able to take it into my bedroom and work, and I can't do that with a desktop..plus I wanna play runescape..rofl :P (when my family is using the computer, they're usually playing around...don't even realize that I need to use it..)

That is just a bit under your price range and the specs on it should suit you fine. It has wireless capabilitys, so you could spend some of the $200 you have left over from your $2k limit to buy yourself a wireless router and have wireless internet on your laptop, meaning you can play runescape from your room. Just an idea.

So yeah, that should suit your needs fine, it only wieghs 2kgs, so its not heavy, its got wireless capabilitys as i said above, so if your school has a wireless network set up they might be kind enough to make it so you can get on your school account using your own laptop using their net work.

Disagree with me or have i said something wrong? Please correct me so he can make a good decision.

Be wary of dells.. I have several friends who have downright bad luck with them..

I would discard this statement until some clarification is shown because my experience with Dell's has been 100% different. I have owned or used and worked with over 100 Dell computers over the last 3 years and have had absolutely no issues.

What sort of problems did these people encounter Greatsilverwyrm?

I've had great luck with Dell Desktops, but as I said, my friends have had downright rotten luck with dell laptops..

Failed harddrives, dead disk drives, dead screens, and just general not good quality.

There is risk of that with ANY computer. Your friend haven't multiple "bad luck" instances is very suspicious. From my experience and what I have heard professional about Dell's they are very realiable computers and well worth the price.

looks pritty good just watch the hard drive as its only 60gb but if ure doing is basic programing and such it will easilly run it, and runescape doesnt exactly demand high performance gaming this looks like a good notebook. Im sure u can upgrade the harddrive if you want.

Also alot of sellers e.g. dell have online shops which they can send you the notebook or are u wanting to use this supplier particulary?

Aussie Aussie Aussie,

:D

Friend bought a dell so he could come back to Call of duty. The dell wouldn't work properly, first RAM problems and then HDD problems.

With Dell, you either like them or you don't.
