The topic I started has already gone off topic a little and basically the same thing as this topic , so actualy it does

Get it locked if it went offtopic then. Stop being stupid. Your posts just get crappier everytime.

Err.. Sorry? :?

not worth it... edit....

J.K.R is creative... but no so creative. Demonters are practiacally replicas of the Witch Kings of LOTR, right down to apperace and 'getting cold' side effects. Also the 2 guys, 1 girl teenage magic trio of friends was used in the Diadem series that was popular about 12 years ago. There are many other examples but thats not the point. Perhaps the KKK hats were put in there since they unconsciously represent hatred and evilness; same with the blonde racist people. I doubt it was intentional but I'm sure there was an influence

i love harry potter... read 4 books n ive seen the 4 movies...i remember a while back hearing...that J.K. was planning on killing harry potter in the last book ...is this true...is she going to make him die...and how many more books do u think r due to come out...i was looking on a movie site and it said that the 5th harry potter movie will be out in 2007, so that means with each movie having a 2 yr gap...that means that the 6th movie would come out in 2009 n so on...so im thinking how many more books would come out...theres only so much time until the movie actors start to look like full grown adults...

I think Draco and his father's blonde hair is simply in contrast to Harry's brown hair, Hermione's brown hair and Ron's red hair. It's all about subtle contrasts and distancing the good characters from the bad. Also don't forget the KKK style hats would simply be the director's interpretation of J K Rowling's description.

Don't think that JK didn't have say in everything that was new in the movies. She is there every step of the way - especially for a new director. The movies are literally created by asking JK how she imagines it.

umm, now that I acually think of this through, I think your right. Rolling might be a natzi, who knows.

If you look closely everything could be said to have been copied from something else.

I can't vouch for "Diadem" as I've never read them, or even heard of them, however..

There was only 1 "Witch King", in LOTR, and that was the captain of the Nazgul, the once king of Angmar. Dementors bear little if any resemblance to them. The feelings caused by them, if you look any closer than a glance, are similar, but in an extremely basic sense.

Since you'll probably debate me, let me elaborate now:

The nazgul are described, off their horses, as looking like a bundle of rags, or almost crawling, suggesting that they either bend extremely low to the ground or are actually physically crawling. They are also implied to be very quick, and rightly so, rather wraithlike (IE ethereal, shapeless, etc).

Dementors are not only 8 ft tall, but if I remember correctly, they are supposed to have purple cloaks. Also they have a very definite form, humanoid with scabby grey-skin, and an extremely hideous head. The form is always implied, which is very opposite to the Nazgul, whose lack of form is always heavily implied.

The feeling attributed by a dementor is supposedly simply that of extreme cold, and extreme terror, given the fact that they induce remembrance of your most horrible memories. The ringwraiths don't really have an effect, other that you can "feel their presence" (this further enhances the idea that they don't really have a form). The cold you're probably thinking about is that Frodo's arm, after being stabbed by the Nazgul knife, remains deathly cold for days.

Dementors are scary, cold, but have a definite form. Nazgul are wraithlike, an implied lack of form, and invoke a feeling of "evil", or "emptiness".

^I say grats to you Wyrm for such an indepth post.

The [bleep] called me a geek for reading up Silmarillion when he posts like that about Lord of The Rings.

He's jealous I tell you, jealous! :P

Seriously though, Dementors and Nazguls are different from each other, although they DO look similar.

Dementors are not only 8 ft tall, but if I remember correctly, they are supposed to have purple cloaks. Also they have a very definite form, humanoid with scabby grey-skin, and an extremely hideous head.

Nuh uh. It was never said on the books how they look like as the people who knows what's under the hoods cannot tell the tale as they were given the Dementor's kiss.

The feeling attributed by a dementor is supposedly simply that of extreme cold, and extreme terror, given the fact that they induce remembrance of your most horrible memories.

They induce remembrance of your most horrible memories because they suck the happy memories you have. Without the existance of happy memories come the horrible ones.

Each of the Nazgul have a Ring of Power. The "Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die." The rings caused them to be invisible and also gave them power, but as they are mortals, they cannot handle the power for long. In the end, they just become a spirit, a wraith as you said. Take off the rings from their hands and they'll disappear as the rings are the only things keeping them alive. And they invoke fear when they screech and emptiness only for Frodo as he has the 'One' ring. Even in the books, only Frodo felt the 'black rider' coming in the forest. And only him can see their true looks as he goes to the same dimension as the Nazgul when he wears the ring, as he too, turns invisible.

Oh and LOTR > HP any day.

Aye, good post Wyrm. I was exaggerating when I said they were extremely similar. But still, both are black cloaked figures that aren't exactly considered the good guys and they both make you feel cold or helpless when you are near them. True, their appearances are not identical, but in the movies the Nazgul are not shapeless enemities, but upright figures of a dark aura.

Exactly the same? No.

Quite similar? Yes.

No. Harry's first viewing of a Dementor, on the Hogwarts Express, he sees a grey scabby hand for a split-second before it withdaws it inside the cloak. Also, Harry almost has the kiss performed on him, so he sees both of the dementor's hands and the dementor's head. It's vaguely like a human head, but with no eyes, or nose (I think), and a huge gaping sucking mouth.

That's basically what I said. The Nazgul don't suck happy memories out of you.

Take off the rings from their hands and they'll disappear as the rings are the only things keeping them alive.

They aren't technically alive, and the only way to destroy them is to destroy the master ring. I'm not even sure you can remove the rings from their finger, as they technically don't exist in the real world.

They invoke fear, sure, but not nearly the same terror that the dementors invoke. The nazgul's fear is more primal, if you know what I mean.

Also, the emptiness I was talking about was just the general feel from their description. They don't make the characters feel empty, the nazgul are described as empty themselves, physically speaking. It's complicated and I could explain it more but it'd take me a while.

Frodo isn't the only one who can see their true form, he's the only one that could see them period. All anyone else saw was a sort of implied form due to the cloaks. Take away the cloaks and you've got nothing, almost literally.

Oh and LOTR > HP any day.

I'm not even gonna go there..

True, their appearances are not identical, but in the movies the Nazgul are not shapeless enemities, but upright figures of a dark aura.

I'm basing my arguments off the book. I feel that the movies are inferior to the books (though mostly Harry Potter's case).

Still, though. In the movies the Nazgul are upright on their horses, but go back and re-watch the scenes where they are unhorsed.

Exactly the same? No.

Quite similar? Yes.

I'd still debate that.

I am going to have to cede to you Wyrm. I have read/seen the entire LOTR trilogy, and I have read/seen every book and movie of Harry Potter that is out to date. However, you seem to have a better background then me and I was never terribly avid about the subject so I shall leave the debate to people who have mastered the subject more than I have.

J.K. Rowlings discription in teh books states there wearing hoods not pointy kkk hats if ur 2 blame any1 id blame that new director dude and also i thought that the first 2 movies had a better director year 3 and 4 movies are a bit rushed as u see in movie 3 he leaves his house within 10min and in movie 4 they skip almost the entire qudditch world cup

And shepherds we shall be, for Thee, my Lord, for Thee.

Power hath descended forth from Thy hand,

that our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command.

So we shall flow a river forth to Thee,

and teeming with souls shall it ever be.

In nomine Patris et Filii et Spiritus Sancti.

Harry potter is one of those bookes with one level for the child and a much deeper level for adults. As for the malfroy idea and the muggle / wizard / mudblood etc. divide, it can surely be expressing today's racism.

As for the KKK idea, it might have been influenced by that, and its a matter of opinion, but I doubt it. Referrance to and symbolisation of the KKK would probably make the film unsuitable, but its hard to tell.
