Lagging with wireless

Got computer back from repair shop, mom switched internet to cable and me, my brother and mom all share the same connection. My signal switches between excellent and 4/5 bars so what's the problem? Even in the best world for my location I still lag once in a while. Not lagging as in fighting something and the screen freezes and I see like 6 damage splats, but lagging as in I see everything else moving and doing stuff/running around but even if I click somewhere, I don't move kind of lagging. How do I fix this?

It's possible that you have someone piggybacking: I have the same problem at the moment. What kind of security do you have set up?

Otherwise, is anyone torrenting anything? A movie or two from The Pirate Bay can slow a lightweight network down noticeably.

Stuff like youtube can cause lag too. I'd also check your connection speed at speedtest.net. If you've only got something like a 0.5Mbit/s connection, then you could well notice lag even if your wireless connection is good; especially if someone else is on the internet at the same time.

Okay exactly 1 hour.

Packets: Sent = 2768, Recieved = 2567, Lost = 201 <7% loss>,

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

Minimum = 52ms, Maximum = 1423ms, Average = 66ms

I was browsing the web while this was going, don't know if that matters. So am I good or bad then?

I don't know if mines bad because no one answered, but I googled packet stuff and thought, how do I prioritze gaming packets before most other packets? If this is the problem that is.

You're losing 7% of your packets.

Problem found.

If you're into online gaming, anything above 1% is unacceptable.

Resetting the router helps occasionally. Walls between you and the router is bad. If you plan on gaming a lot, go with a hard wire connection.

Also: Packets doesn't look like a word any more.

We have no choice but to have walls. =\ I've put my little brothers arial facing out the window though, and the window cill is where my reciever is. By hard wire, you mean I should have a router myself?

Edit: Would recuding graphic settings have less packets for it to send and make it a bit better?
