Hulk12
What is it: A program that use's your spare CPU cycles to generate "images" that can assist in the cure of various diseases. No it does not hog system resources! It uses the spare energy your system kicks out. But if a program needs the extra power (such as a game) it can take back the power from the @Home programs use. Sites: FightingAIDS@Home: http://www.fightaidsathome.org/ Folding@Home: http://folding.stanford.edu/ On a personal note, In all this is'nt about who is the most power full. It's about helping. Augsback
I use Folding@Home, a really cool program once you get to know how it actually runs.
Mikeob1
Isn't it nearly the same thing as this: http://www.d2ol.com/ ? I've known about that for over a year now. I heard that this was some new concept, but then that's been around for a while , so idk what to think.
Vape
I've been folding for some time now :) I'm in team Mozillazine. I've done 73 work units and my score is 8442. I don't notice any adverse affects from having the app running. Where the bloody hell are you?

weezcake
It sounds interesting, but I don't understand how it works. What does it do? What are these "images" that it creates, and how do they help? and btw, the Stanford link doesn't work. Remove the www and it will. :) ==================================Retired tip.it moderator.Teaching and inspiring.
Hulk12
It sounds interesting, but I don't understand how it works. What does it do? What are these "images" that it creates, and how do they help? and btw, the Stanford link doesn't work. Remove the www and it will. :) Here is how it works: To support FightAIDS@Home, you simply download a free software program from World Community Grid that runs "in the background" on your computer. This is called the FightAIDS@Home client, and it processes information (in this case using the drug design software AutoDock) and evaluates prospective candidates for drug discovery. The FightAIDS@Home client uses idle processor cycles that would otherwise go to waste. FightAIDS@Home captures the otherwise wasted cycles of your computer and applies them to model the evolution of drug resistance and to design drugs necessary to fight AIDS. When your computer has finished a FightAIDS@Home computation, the FightAIDS@Home results are packed up and sent back to The Scripps Research Institute, ready for Scripps researchers to collect and analyze them. Thats basicly it....

Looce
I have also been folding for quite some time now, around 1.5 years. Recently I installed Folding@Home on my (dead) father's computer... Hopefully it will help Science research cures for diseases. Diseases like the one that killed my father: lung cancer, emphysema and the like...
