November 24, 200520 yr What is it: A program that use's your spare CPU cycles to generate "images" that can assist in the cure of various diseases. No it does not hog system resources! It uses the spare energy your system kicks out. But if a program needs the extra power (such as a game) it can take back the power from the @Home programs use. Sites: FightingAIDS@Home: http://www.fightaidsathome.org/ Folding@Home: http://folding.stanford.edu/ On a personal note, In all this is'nt about who is the most power full. It's about helping.
November 24, 200520 yr Author Yay! And another thing you might not see any results right off. It took me 30mins to get 1%. :)
November 24, 200520 yr I use Folding@Home, a really cool program once you get to know how it actually runs.
November 24, 200520 yr Isn't it nearly the same thing as this: http://www.d2ol.com/ ? I've known about that for over a year now. I heard that this was some new concept, but then that's been around for a while , so idk what to think.
November 24, 200520 yr I've been folding for some time now :) I'm in team Mozillazine. I've done 73 work units and my score is 8442. I don't notice any adverse affects from having the app running. Where the bloody hell are you?

November 24, 200520 yr Author I stoped folding@home to start fightingaids@home. (Username: Hulk12, Team: ADE Custom Cases)
November 24, 200520 yr Ah I saw this on the OoC site. Both are up and running now :) This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
November 25, 200520 yr Just set up the AIDS one, had the Folding Home installed anyway. :) "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"
November 25, 200520 yr It sounds interesting, but I don't understand how it works. What does it do? What are these "images" that it creates, and how do they help? and btw, the Stanford link doesn't work. Remove the www and it will. :) ==================================Retired tip.it moderator.Teaching and inspiring.
November 25, 200520 yr Author It sounds interesting, but I don't understand how it works. What does it do? What are these "images" that it creates, and how do they help? and btw, the Stanford link doesn't work. Remove the www and it will. :) Here is how it works: To support FightAIDS@Home, you simply download a free software program from World Community Grid that runs "in the background" on your computer. This is called the FightAIDS@Home client, and it processes information (in this case using the drug design software AutoDock) and evaluates prospective candidates for drug discovery. The FightAIDS@Home client uses idle processor cycles that would otherwise go to waste. FightAIDS@Home captures the otherwise wasted cycles of your computer and applies them to model the evolution of drug resistance and to design drugs necessary to fight AIDS. When your computer has finished a FightAIDS@Home computation, the FightAIDS@Home results are packed up and sent back to The Scripps Research Institute, ready for Scripps researchers to collect and analyze them. Thats basicly it....
November 26, 200520 yr Ah, okay. Will download and run when I get home tonight :) ==================================Retired tip.it moderator.Teaching and inspiring.
November 27, 200520 yr I have also been folding for quite some time now, around 1.5 years. Recently I installed Folding@Home on my (dead) father's computer... Hopefully it will help Science research cures for diseases. Diseases like the one that killed my father: lung cancer, emphysema and the like...
