Ranging steels

Hey just a quick question, just read on the rs wiki that void isn't useful at steel dragons and things like armadyl etc shoul be used instead for better bonuses. Surely the +15% on void is better?

First of, I would like to state that using ranged on steel dragons is a complete waste of time. Maging / melee them is far more efficient. Leaf bladed sword is the absolute bomb. Combined with a slayer helmet, you're bound to have a good time there.

Maging is ofcourse great to, especially with all the magic gear out there ;)

If you do want to range, void is still a good choice. If you however do have acces to full armadyl, feel free to use that. Don't forget your Dragonfire shield or antifire shield!

If you are on task, then use a full slayer helm with just plain old dhide, unless you can afford arma that is.

Yep. I just had them as a Slayer task. I did half by melee and half ranging. For ranging I used black d'hide, rune crossbow and broad bolts with Slayer helm and ranging potion. Slower than melee but not prohibitively so, and not difficult at all. One advantage of melee/mage is you hit the dragon you want, while with melee occasionally an iron will attack you before you get to the steel you're after, which is a bit of a hassle.

Best drop so far: Dragon Chainbody from a Dust Devil.

But void is a 15% accuracy bonus isn't it. And I know melee is faster but it requires more concentration which I couldn't be bothered with last night

Armadyl with focus sight is superior to void for steel dragons.

Even without a focus sight, armadyl is still superior to void at steel dragons. The accuracy bonuses from armadyl amount to much more than void's 10% boost. Black dragonhide also beats void there.

Void is useful for stuff with lower defence, because the 10% damage bonus wont help much if you cant hit. For almost any metal dragons (not sure about bronze) you want to go with dhide/arma so you can hit through their crazy high defence. With the full slayer helm, void is practically useless for slayer now, but is still really good for regular training on low def monsters.

Yes, Void has a 15% accuracy bonus, but if you look at the accuracy provided by black dragonhide, it exceeds the accuracy provided by void, even after counting the 15%

So if black dhide has better accuracy than void, armadyl would logically be even more accurate. At for range killing steels, accuracy is everything.

assume not on a slayer task

90+ range, void is better since you shouldn't need the accuracy so much anymore

Even with 99 + pots I never hit very well with void, so arma is probably better regardless
