Consumables, Buyables, Raw Materials Discussion

As you all know with the release of the grand exchange and skill capes consumables have declined somewhat, buyables have skyrocketed, and Raw materials have rose exponentially. All sorts of new methods to training these skills and harvesting the materials

to train them have changed loads in the last few years making some methods obsolete and new methods have taken the place of the outdated ones.

Lately the skills that have been majorly overhauled are Fishing, Mining, Herblore, Ranged, Hunter, and Woodcutting.

Fishing has seen the addition of Rocktails and Cavefish which have made it so much more profitable in terms of bringing raw materials into the game and increasing the xp per hour of the profitable method that players will take to earn money rather than click and drop.

Mining has seen a major change to training at 77+ with the living rock caverns. Now making mining afkable and allowing players to make over 50m on their way to 99 with gold ore. The downside has been the flood of gold ore into the economy making it less valuable and making smithing somewhat cheaper using goldsmithing gauntlets.

Herblore has seen the addition of new potions such as extremes, and overloads. Completely changing the way people boss hunt and slay and turning the herblore market upside down. Now farming herbs and doing mtk has become great money makers for the average scaper.

Ranged became much easier and became a buyable when hunter was released. Chinchompa's are now the best method to reaching 99 fast and efficiently. But it also comes at a price.

Hunter has seen the addition of catching butterflys for insane xp rates, and new implings that carry Royal clothing has became a way to make insane money and street value.

Lastly the one update that upset me the most, the woodcutting rebalance. Now you can get xp/hr comparable with power cutting teaks by chopping ivy. It brings nothing into the economy other than nests but allows you to afk in exchange.

What I think would be interesting to discuss are these changes to the game and the market of consumables, buyables, and raw materials. I remember long ago when people sold their rares only to get buyable skills with the release of skill capes. Now that the rares market is booming and the addition of these updates I've just highlighted on with the exception of stealing creation which I haven't discussed yet. I have noticed some buyables have became cheaper such as smithing, and others have skyrocketed.

Let's discuss the prices on item's related to this and the game economy that deals with this. New methods such as superheating while you smelt and superheating while mining in the living rock caverns and other new training methods can be discussed also.

To sum it all up, I'm wanting to make a thread to talk about methods and items dealing with skilling, buyable 99's.

With the addition of effigies into the game I wonder how it will affect buyables, especially if jagex decides to tweak the assist system. Could possibly make prices drop on more skills.

Sounds good, should keep all the "wil dbones go ap?" out of 3rd age/phat thread ;)

To above poster: If jagex increased the assist limit to, say 500k xp a day, you'd definitely see people offering to pay you 500k or so to assist you with your herblore effigy.

Yeah I hope to see them tweak it but I hope they don't go too far with it like 500k as you mentioned. I'd say 60-90k xp per day would be somewhat balanced. I just hate having to hunt down people only to find out they already maxed out assist.

to be efficient you do not make 50m on 99 mining, you actualy loose 50m if u wanna do it fast

chinning is not the most efficient range xp, cannoning your slayer tasks is more efficient

smithing has not become cheaper, at a time it was 2:1 with addy plates, now addy plates are about 15:1

the way people skill has changed in the last years but i dont see much discussion here

also dungeoneering was a great fishing update, cave morays are 200k xp/h

well i plan to mine 200k gold in LRC and smith it for 2 99's. Or i could go and make all the bars into gold ammys for 92 crafting, and string all ammies with magic for magic xp and maybe crafting?

You can superheat gold ores as you mine gold, it doesn't stop the mining action LRC. That way you get mining, smithing and magic xp, all at decent rates and all at the same time

I was trying to make a thread similar to the party hats and 3rd age discussion thread except with other items such as consumables, and raw materials, ect. I tried to add some discussion value other than saying, talk about random crap not doing with rares, ect.

I can't seem to understand why allot of raw materials seem to skyrocket. There are coming more and more botters into the game by the day.

80% Of them are botting to gather materials.

Yews; 500 each last time i checked. Man cmon look at how many botters there are on f2p world and even on p2p worlds. Tons of people fighting over trees and still the price is so high.

I miss the times you could make some profit flecthing your logs into unstrung bows, buying some cheap flax in camelot and making strings and then string your bows to be able to alch it for profit.
