Dungeoneering Tip...kinda

Recommended Posts

Hey all. Not sure if this is something that should or could be added to the skill guide for dungeoneering, or as a 'tip/trick' but here it is just in case.

I had an incident happen to me where I entered a "Guardian" Puzzle room (where you need construction to 'repair' the guardian so it'll open doors). I entered the room, took one of the stones and when I tried to carve it (into a head), the game told me I needed a crafting level of 105 to do this (I'm guessing that means 90-99 crafting plus a boost potion). Anyway...needless to say, my crafting was nowhere near high enough.

Elsewhere in the same dungeon I found another "Guardian" Puzzle room. In this room however, my crafting level was sufficient to craft the necessary piece (a leg).

I decided to try something. I took an extra rock and carved the head needed in the previous room. Went back to the first room with this piece and tried it on the Guardian and...IT WORKED!!

Now I doubt it'll happen very often where you'll have 2 of the same puzzle rooms in the same dungeon, but if you do...maybe this will work for you too :)

(far as I can tell, this would probably only work with the "Combat Triangle Statues" and "Guardian" puzzle rooms)

Great find, but sadly it's a bug, though i doubt you could be dealt with for not telling them about it or using it. Seems like there are 3 puzzles this would be helpful for(mining and crafting weapons for the 2 statue ones and imbuing and crafting body parts for the large statue).

First to 99 Farming on 27. September, 2005.

First to 3766 Port Score on 20. March, 2014.

First to 4664 Port Score on 2. March, 2015.

Maybe it's not even a bug, but the way you're supposed to proceed...especially if the "required" level is that far above 99. It could be that the developers reasoned that players would have to figure that part into the puzzle.

I'm leaning more towards this being unintentional. These dungeons are randomized, which is why it is so rare for you to get two of the same puzzle like this with one so high and another you can do. Because they are randomized, it would be very strange for the developers to have said, "maybe they'll get a lower level room of the same puzzle they can use."

I suppose they could have specifically written the code to include this scenario every once in a while, but it just seems like a very oddly specific instance for them to have included it on purpose, with the sole idea in mind being that the player would do what the OP did.
