August 7, 201015 yr I've been noticing that most people seem to use Claws of Guthix rather than Flames of Zamorak. It was my understanding that since COG lowers defense and FOZ lowers magic, the latter causes more damage. Could someone please explain why most people use claws?

It was my understanding that since COG lowers defense and FOZ lowers magic, the latter causes more damage. Could someone please explain why most people use claws?because you can get +10% base magic damage with claws of guthix, thanks to the void mace.no such +10% bonus exists for flames of zamorak. additionally, the two attacks lower magic/defense by a percentage.if you're fighting a metal dragon, presumably their defense is massive, whereas their magic is not.in such a case, 5% of their defense level impacts their overall magic defense more than 5% of their magic levels.
August 7, 201015 yr The +10% Void Mace is very nice, as with the slightly cheaper cost of Claws. I however, Flames reduces magic levels by a set number(5) as opposed to 5% from Claws. This will usually mean that Guthix has better defensive reductions because monsters have hand modded stats as opposed to players. High level bosses have a ridiculously high amount of Defense on top of the standard stab/slash/crush defense to ensure that their overall chance of dodge attacks is very high. Monsters generally don't have much magic anyways, so their magic will get drained quickly. Dungeoneering isn't a skill. I'm faster than bots at Sorceress Garden. PM me if you want to chat. August 7, 201015 yr Void mace lets you auto cast claws of guthix and not Zammy flames correct? Or did that change in past two years? August 7, 201015 yr Void mace lets you auto cast claws of guthix and not Zammy flames correct? Or did that change in past two years? Void mace has a +10% damage modifier for claws of guthix. Autocasting is no longer an issue, but that used to be one of the reasons why CoG > other god spells, yes. To put it bluntly, [bleep] off.

[21:59] <@Ninane> .spell flames of zamorak[21:59] -[iN]RuneScript- *** [ SPELL ]: Flames of Zamorak | Level: 60 | Exp: 61ea | Runes: 1 Air, 4 Fire, 2 Blood | Cost: 784gp - 827gp - 870gp[21:59] <@Ninane> .spell claws of guthix[21:59] -[iN]RuneScript- *** [ SPELL ]: Claws of Guthix | Level: 60 | Exp: 61ea | Runes: 4 Air, 1 Fire, 2 Blood | Cost: 826gp - 871gp - 916gp You are right that Flames of Zamorak is cheaper, but for many of the reasons listed above, it's wise to shell out the extra 50 gp per cast to achieve that extra damage in most situations.
August 7, 201015 yr Author Thanks for the explanations guys; I had forgotten all about the void mace. As a follow up question, would I be better off using Claws or fire wave with a staff of light at mithril dragons?
August 7, 201015 yr Thanks for the explanations guys; I had forgotten all about the void mace. As a follow up question, would I be better off using Claws or fire wave with a staff of light at mithril dragons? Definitely claws of guthix, but keep in mind that mith dragons have high mage defense. I don't really recommend maging them at all. To put it bluntly, [bleep] off.
